White made a Singer Clone?

"Today, the most-easily found White are the rotary models, which include the Models FR, 41, 43 and 77. Many are found in Sears livery and so are labelled either Kenmore, Minnesota or Franklin. The Model 8, a Singer Model 27 clone that had initially been manufactured by Domestic, is also found occasionally." http://ismacs.net/white/white-sewing-machine-company-history.html

I thought this was going to be about White badged Japanese 15 clones. I've seen plenty of those.
I wonder if anyone here has a White model 8 they can show us.

Yes, White sold 15 clones. I've got several pics in my "Clones from A to Z" picture collection. They were not made by White, only imported by them.

The machines made by White, the Models FR, 41, 43 and 77 and those 117 series Kenmores, Domestics, Franklins, Minnesotas, et al, are not clones as they are actually American made by the White company in the U. S. A..

The White #8 is pretty similar to the Singer , uses the same shuttle though the belt pulley is on the outside of handwheel. Not certain if the underside of the model 8 is the sames as the 27 or 127. In the Ismacs Sears article many Davis machines and others are labeled as Singer clones which they are not though on some the styling is similar. The Singer influence is there though "Clone" or "knock off" is a bit strong IMHO.

This was made because Sears wanted a machine that had the "look" of the Singers to compete.

This one came with the wood leg treadle cabinet I just got - sold by Sears.

I'll post a picture of the underside when I'm off work.

Underside is different than Singer 27 / 127 with "long throw" shuttle arm. Davis used a similar style. I think the clone label is thrown around rather loosely but seems probable Sears wanted a "Singer like" machine.

That machine has the sharpest corners I have ever seen on a sewing machine!!

The Minnesota E reminded me of a Davis "New Minnesota A" c. 1910 I have which was special made for a Library Table / Treadle. Definitely Singer inspired styling but with quite a few differences.
