White VS III Post-Cleanup Help Needed!

I recently cleaned up a White VS3. It was so gunked up that it was absolutely necessary to take apart all the pieces in the face plate. I'm having trouble getting the presser foot height adjusted correctly. The needle bar was easy because the screws left very visible marks for me. I'm hoping someone else has a machine like this and can help provide some measurements that I can use as a guide. Here are before and after pictures.

Welcome, sorry I can't help you. I haven't seen one gunked up like that before, wow.

First, Welcome to the Board!

Second, that is pretty typical gunk for a machine of that age. Good job on the cleaning

Third, you have just experienced the joy of "I should have taken better notes/pictures" Don't worry, we ALL do that at least once or twice.

You should be able to:

1. set the face back in place,
2. measure from the bottom of face to the bed,
3. remove the face again,
4. put the foot on the presser bar.
5. unscrew the top presser foot adjustment until it is loose,
6. loosen the set screw on the presser bar
7. measure up from the bottom of the foot the same distance as you measured in step 2 and make a sharpie mark on the presser bar
8. slide the presser bar up (or down) until you set the mark at the bottom of the face
9. tighten the set screw
10. adjust pressure as needed.
