Why are these drawers so small?

The little Singer instruction book for my 401A is only 4 7/8 by 7" and it won't even fit! I guess the good news is that by the time they made my Necchi cabinet, they'd gotten the message. It has 3 good sized drawers, and the obligatory skinny top drawer. I guess they only thought we'd have to keep the feet, 2 spools of thread (black and white) and maybe a buttonholer. And the cams, if applicable. Does anyone have an original box for the 401 to 5XX series cams? Just wondering how big they wete. I have some of the singles, which I guess are replacements.

My 403 came with an attachment box 161279 and is about 5 5/8" x 7 1/2" x 2.18". It is probably similar to https://www.worthpoint.com/worthoped...set-1691363178 or numerous others. My parts list says attachment set for the 401 is 161173 and according to http://www.singersewinginfo.co.uk/simanco/161173/ was a plastic box, but does not give dimensions.

The 503 I bought at an estate sale had the same size box of bits. You'll notice that the manual fits inside the box in the photo Janey posted. My box is cardboard, too. I have a similar size plastic box that says its for a 646.
