Shown is the beginnings of my restoration of Singer cabinet. I began by restoring the dust cover underneath the machine. As you you can see the laminate is seperating though all the wood is still there except one small segment (Easy fix on that part). I didn't want to tear wood apart so I lifted it as far as I could and put glue on wood to reset the first layer of laminate (it has three layers that and all have seperated and I have to glue one layer at a time). You can see me elorbate system for weighting down until glue has dried. I put a piece of parchment paper in between so glue wouldn't stick to bags.
I used blue "painters tape" to hold the edges. (Pull it as tight as you can). Relax, do something else until the glue is dry. (depends on humidity). BTW I used "Elmer's" craft/school glue.

I will be interested to see more photos as you progress.

I like your weights. I'd be more inclined to use Carpenter's glue. Elmer's makes one in a container similar to the school glue.

I've done similar repairs on sewing machine cases and cabinets. I use the Elmers Carpenters glue and either clamps or weight as is appropriate.

I've not tackled one quite that bad though. I'm watching to see the "after" pics.

If I had I would use bags of lead shot for reloading shotgun shells. I got rid of that during my last move. It will mold to about any shape you have.

Great idea using bags of lead shot to hold down glued veneer. I will put that in my memory bank.
