I hope you have a service manual for this model, as you will likely need it.

I've had to take a few apart as they had grease that turned to wax inside the spring. It wasn't an easy repair and not one I'd recommend without trying the easy way for a few weeks.

I do have a service manual and hope things go smoothly. I will be reading it and re-reading it as well as gathering any and all information I can.

If memory serves, yes, the brushes are under where you showed. I have a vague memory of those brushes (or maybe the brushes in another Bernina) giving me fits because they were fiddley to manage without "sproinging all over the place" I never did get all the way into that Bernina's motor. I stopped about where you did (besides the brushes) I think I might have cleaned the carbon out of everyhere I could without, and cleaned up the commutator as much as possible with a pencil eraser through the slots. The motor in mine was done though.

Woot! woot! SUCCESS! I finally got the detent button to move! Yes! *doing the dance of joy! NOW, I can move forward with this machine. It's taken so long now, that I forgot what I am even doing with this machine. I'm sure I need to work the button more to get it really loosened up. I thought it was fully poked out, but once I got it to push in, I found out it was not fully poked out either.

I will still need to change that camstack gear. I'm a little nervous about that.

This is a no-go. Not gonna happen. I DID change out the camstack gear and thought all was going well. I moved forward with some cleaning, oiling, and went on to try and adjust the needle. THAT's a bear. But while still in the process of trying to loosten these age old screws holding the upright tower to the base I found that the OTHER gear is now cracking. :mad:

That upright gear is just more expense for a machine that has cost me too much already. I'm looking at a donor machine.

I've never had a Bernina with two cracked gears at the same time. I wonder what the history of the machine was and if it was stored in some oven somewhere and then put in the freezer:< Sorry to hear it didn't work out. Donor machines are needed, and you may get an e-mail from me some day as I'm always on the hunt for Bernina parts.

I think it was stored in a barn. The other gear looked ok but discolored. I guess it was pretty weakened. I'll be hanging onto this one as a donor machine but I'll probably pull that camstack gear right back out since it is brand new and I want to keep it in perfect condition. I know someone will need it eventually. Feel free to message me if you find you need something.
