I hope you have a service manual for this model, as you will likely need it.

The other question is..I have accessed the motor hoping to check the brushes and clean it up but haven't found my way in. Do you think I take these tiny copper leads off and remove the gold colored pieces? The brush cases are in there. Or should this thing pull apart if I add some muscle?

Woot! woot! SUCCESS! I finally got the detent button to move! Yes! *doing the dance of joy! NOW, I can move forward with this machine. It's taken so long now, that I forgot what I am even doing with this machine. I'm sure I need to work the button more to get it really loosened up. I thought it was fully poked out, but once I got it to push in, I found out it was not fully poked out either.
I will still need to change that camstack gear. I'm a little nervous about that. |
Great job Christy!! Just take the camstack slowly and it should go just fine. Post if you need help with it.

Thanks Tammi, I will!

OK. It's time to call it.
Bernina 730 Record: Time of Death 7:39 pm 8-29-14 This is a no-go. Not gonna happen. I DID change out the camstack gear and thought all was going well. I moved forward with some cleaning, oiling, and went on to try and adjust the needle. THAT's a bear. But while still in the process of trying to loosten these age old screws holding the upright tower to the base I found that the OTHER gear is now cracking. That upright gear is just more expense for a machine that has cost me too much already. I'm looking at a donor machine. Rest in pieces. |
I've never had a Bernina with two cracked gears at the same time. I wonder what the history of the machine was and if it was stored in some oven somewhere and then put in the freezer:< Sorry to hear it didn't work out. Donor machines are needed, and you may get an e-mail from me some day as I'm always on the hunt for Bernina parts.
