Yes, some of us enjoy challenges.

I know nothing about making it a hand crank, but just wanted to tell you what a gorgeous machine that is. For $15 I would definitely have bought it.

The motor is back together, with some new wire, and it spins the machine nicely with a v-belt (but it wouldn't with a cogged belt).

And I have only one extra part!!

It sewed pretty well, but only after I put in a new needle. It was skipping stitches intermittently otherwise.

This may surprise some people, but it turns out that even the World's Best Sewing Machine can't overcome operator error. Case in point: I had a "new" machine needing a dust cover (made from a thrift store pillow case with the seamed long side cut, then hemmed, and then the otherwise open short side sewn closed). I was deciding on a machine to use, and went with the World's Best, well, because it's the world's best. I loaded up a bobbin and thread, started sewing, broke a needle, replaced sewed, broke another needle. As I was digging out the tip of the second needle I noticed that someone (who shall remain nameless) used a 66 class bobbin instead of 15 class bobbin. When the correct bobbin was used I was able to finish the cover.

I believe a strongly worded letter is in order to the manufacturing company advising them that if this was in fact the World's Best Sewing Machine there would be a mechanism in place to prevent such mistakes as using the wrong bobbin.

Anyone have an address?? Janey??
