I think I'm in love!!:) |
It sure looks lovely but how does it sew? Is the wiring all new?
Ii saw a Butterfly sewing machine. That was the name on it. It came with a singer treadle cabinet for $50.00. It is in Topeka, IN. private mail me if you are interested I have a picture of it on my phone, but took too much medicine last night and can barely function today. Marcia

First thing is to know if it is in running condition. Probably has had a paint job. Good Luck.
If that pink cutie is in good working condition and I could afford it, I would buy it!
Yes, it has been painted.
Its a 1947, does sew. Has been serviced. The color is magenta..... I'm sew tempted  |
I love it!!
If the mechanics are okay, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Imagine redecorating your sewing room using that color as a focus. What fun!
If it works and depending on the price, I would run with it.
the prices for the paint job that I've found run 4-500.00 dollars. I suppose if you had a pet auto body person it would be less, but if that FW was down in my bottom feeder range I'd get it.
That said my FW is my least favorite machine. I'd have a change of heart in a hot color :) |
I've read of prices over $600 for one that has been painted a single color, more for flames, lace, or other detail work. There is skill involved in the preparation and reassembly, but it's quite a markup. Compare the work involved to that of making a quilt and only being able to sell it for $175 including material costs? You should enjoy using your machine as well as your fabric so if it makes you smile and it's in your price range- go for it! You can have your own FW painted any color you want. Bonnie Hunter had posted the name of the fellow who painted hers on her blog a while ago, and I'm sure folks on the Board would have other recommendations.

The Butterfly is likely a Singer replica/nostalgia reproduction made in China or Taiwan. There is more information in the Antique and Vintage section of the Board and on the net.

Yes, I would buy it in an instant. Love those that have been redone if they are done by someone that takes them apart. The guy that services my machines had one that someone had spray painted as it sat on the counter. Everything was "glued" shut and he was taking it apart to get it repaired. I am sure most painted ones run $1500 and up.

Yes - in a heartbeat! In fact at that price I could afford to have it serviced/repaired so the that would not a deterrent to me!
Ms Grace~ I definitely would! ;)
Yes, indeed, I would. If you're in love, and it works, and you can afford it, don't wait. You'll smile every time you look at it.
I love it, but what's the price. Mine is from 1929 and i paid $240. it's original and black.
I love the color magenta, so pretty. |
It's super cute, but me personally the color would hurt my eyes after a while. That, and I can never afford Featherweights :`(
