Hello to all,

My sister asked if I could help her quilt group by making a soldiers quilt for 161 returning troops in September. Now this is the first time for real to do a project for a cause. Since January I have been piddling around with various machines in my collection seeing what makes them work. Last evening we went to the quilter's shop for her to do the machine quilting for me. Knowing that I am a collector and before we left, Lee said BTW, I have something that you can add to your collection. See the pics of what I brought home. Both run with strong motors-a good cleaning & oiling is in order which brings me up to #25 & 26. Oh! and they were FREE!!!

Way to help out the vets! Cool machines too. So what are they? I see the green one is a Dressmaker but what about the Singer? I don't think I've run across that model yet.

It's a Singer Merritt 2404 and it came with 27 cams(kinda rare ones) and I have not seen that particular Dressmaker in any photos yet. The 850 is very Spartan but, does have reverse and the dogs can be dropped out of the way for FM sewing.

Wow, congrats on this great "deal"! they are very nice, and thanks for the vet support, I'm sewing quilts for them too and will be attending a week retreat in Sept where we'll all work on quilts for them!!!!

One good deed deserves another. Good for you.

My wife is interested in the cams for the Merritt. Could you post a pic of them?

You got very lucky on that score! Congratulations. Free is GOOD! LOL! Thanks to Miriam, my 328K (Singer) is actually working properly. You don't realize that some places which are sealed still collect lint, dust, old oil, etc. My ZZ was not working properly and I was afraid we were looking at a major repair job. I send a PM to Miriam, and she suggested that I open up the area around the stitch length mechanism, which I did. I used q-tips and sewing machine oil and you would never believe the crap that I cleaned out of there. I couldn't see in there, so there's no telling whether I got it all. All I do know, is that my 328, on a decorative stitch makes the stitch the same length and width. no matter what the speed! I am a happy camper! This machine is special, because my husband (who is now deceased) bought it for me the first Christmas we were married (1963), and it has been a really special machine!
