Well, I found a real good substitute latch that's CHEAP and easy to use. This package of screen latches cost less than $2.00 at Lowes.

Depending on your case and machine you might have to shorten the mounting part of the latch a bit, I shortened this one just over an 1/8". But they work very well, look good and won't chip the finish on the machine.

Be careful- the plastic ones can snap off. There are metal ones made for securing old storm windows and screens to the house and they are much sturdier.

Pollyanna looks like she is tired of the whole mess.

Pollyanna does look a little skeptical, but I think your idea is great.

Are those located in the same area as the plastic ones at HD or Lowes?

Would have bought and tried the metal ones, but Lowes didn't have them. The plastic these are made from is very tough. I had to use my Dremel with a cut off wheel to cut it. Since all the latch does is keep the base from swinging away from the machine when you pick it up, I'm not overly concerned.

Pollyanna was disgusted because Fiona our long hair Persian / angora was deviling her.

I looked and all I saw was the plastic ones. Next time I'm in there I'll look again. Good chance I missed them.

I'll have to try to find these. I think I have at least one case with an iffy latch.

Wonderful idea. If you can't find those would those clips used for holding mirrors on the wall work?

If you mean the ones like this that I tried on the Aldens:

They did work but not as good as I would have liked. They are too short from the screw hole to the end of the arm. And they are made of a more brittle plastic. I just didn't trust them.

Oh Pollyanna gets lots of attention. She is one of the most possessive kitties we've ever had.

As soon as I get some projects finished, if that every happens, I'm going to build a case for my 99K, Rusty. He doesn't have a home yet and I haven't been able to come up with a 3/4 size case. I've got some ideas on what features I want to try to design into it, but until I get to it nothings on paper.
