My mother gave my college daughter her old Brother Sewing Machine to take back to school with her. I decided we better get her some bobbins and extra accessories. I called Brother and this sewing machine is over 30 years old and they don't make the bobbin for it any more or any of the accessories. Does anyone have an older Brother Pacesetter XL711S and have any of the bobbins or accessories they aren't using? My daughter is a senior at BYU Idaho and is going to take her first fun class in four years--sewing. I hate to send her with only one bobbin.

You should be able to get bobbins at JoAnn's or another fabric store. Take the bobbin with you and compare it to what they have. A lot of them fit more than one machine.

Did they tell you what class of bobbin it was ? Usually class 15 or 66 ? are they metal or plastic ?

you can also go to the Brother site, follow the links and email them for info. You may even be able to download a manual for her.

That's what I think - they're 'kinda universal'.

Post a picture of it - find out that class info.

I have older Brother machines - let's see what you have.

I did go to the Brother site, they don't have a manual for this machine--it is too old. I did email them and they were able to go through archives and send me a xerox copy of an old manual. The manual doesn't say what size bobbin the machien uses. Their customer service reps looked through all the old records and couldn't find anything else on the machine. If they are going to make machines last for 30 years, they ought to keep the records and parts for them, right? LOL

So, I like trying to track these kinds of things down...

I believe that machine takes class 15 metal bobbins - here are 2 places (there are more) that confirm this and will also sell them to you - does your bobbin look like this?

YES. THANK YOU!!! Now I just need to find the foot attachments like the zipper foot, etc.

Again, I could be mistaken, but I think if you can determine the "shank" (high/low) on the machine, you can buy attachments that will work with it. Then they should be relatively easy to find. :)
