Hi, I'm just wondering if there is anything special with a Singer Red Eye product code beginning G2, are they rare? Working and with instructions. Please see attachment

Locally someone is listing one for $280. Says it was made in 1939 or 29, can't remember.

No - "G" designates a series of years of machines made in Elisabethport, USA. So you'd want to really look over the condition of the machine, as that will determine value.

Would love to see more pictures of the cabinet, it does not look like an original Singer one, though it may be much newer than the machine. It does not have the Singer lift assist bracket either.

Thanks for your help - the rest of the serial number is G23. Looking at the serial numbers from Singer that means it's from 1910. I've shown another photo of the cabinet as requested. It's in good condition. As I'm in the UK I assume it would be from the Scotland factory?

I'm no expert on treadle machines. However, I'm not aware that any certain group of serial numbers make any Singer machine more rare or valuable. There were 50,000 G229001-G279000 model 15 machines made in 1910. http://ismacs.net/singer_sewing_mach...l-numbers.html Your machine looks like a 66 to me. So, that serial number may be incorrect.

Again, I don't know much about treadles, but I think that a Singer treadle cabinet would have a Singer embossed in the foot pedal.

All that to say I don't think you have a rare model Singer Treadle machine that will go for a lot of money.

I don't think that there were that many model 15 (if any) with Red Eye decals made, but if it was a model 15, the tension would be on the end, not the front.

Again, several others know more than me about treadles.

Sorry it's 7 digits on the product code so 1912. I understand these are rare in the UK

I see more Red Eye models than any other. I have great Grandma's Redeye 66 treadle made in 1919 and the cabinet is with two drawers on each side, but missing the wide center drawer. It had been passed back and forth among my Granny, her sister, and my mother, so no wonder the drawer was lost. Years of sitting in the middle of our great Aunt's kitchen took it's toll on the veneer.
I had a conversation with the man who painted our house, telling him that each time I bought an old machine, I felt like I was rescuing it. He looked at me a while, smiled and said "I have a machine you can have." Later in the week I came home and he had left a Redeye in a cabinet, in good condition at my side door. It is in excellent shape. No name, no note, just the Singer and a more recent model of a Dressmaker that had bee partially dismantled. Each time I think of him, I smile.

Redeyes often show up on the Shopgoodwill.com site here in the USA.

By the way BKay, there is a horizontal cast iron brace across the back that would be under the machine and above the operators legs that has Singer cast into it, but nothing cast into the treadle like a name or model.

Yes, a red eye would be rare in the UK as that decal set was only put on 66s made in the US.

No way I would pay that much for a common as dirt 66 no matter how pretty it was. Someone has attached sentimental value to it. And if it's a red eye, it's earlier than they're saying or it's been refurbished.

Thanks for all your help. After speaking to people here and from the UK it seems that this is common in US but rare in UK, especially one from 1912.
