Default Singer 301 for FMQ - question

Which style of darning foot do you use? Open toe? Closed toe? Marked toe? Where did you purchase it?

I see sewclassic has a couple of choices: http://shop.sew-classic.com/Singer-3...-Parts_c37.htm

I use this one http://shop.sew-classic.com/Singer-S...oot-384037.htm it's a bit noisy though. I don't have the other one for slants that she sells. Just make sure whatever you buy is for a 301, slant machine.

Candace,

I notice on the SewClassic site that the foot you have may require removal of the thread guide. Did you have to remove the guide for this foot to work?

I usually don't, hence the bit of clatter I get. I do think it's less noisy when the thread guide is removed, but I'm usually in a rush and/or I don't want to lose the parts by removing them.

I like the bigger foot on this one. It holds the quilt in place better than the smaller metal one I have for low shank machines. April ships free. http://www.april1930s.com/html/slant...y___darni.html

April is extortionate.

It would be far cheaper to buy from Helen Howes and pay the postage. http://www.helenhowes-sewingmachines.co.uk She has loads of hopping feet.

Also, go to my Youtube channel and blog ( links below) watch the FMQ on a treadle video, and read about the hopping foot on the blog.

Good luck!

The Howes site didn't have the one I like and a smaller one was 10 pounds which converts to $16, so with shipping there wouldn't be much difference. April has gone up. I paid $18.95 for mine two years ago.

Muv,

I like the style you have - metal foot. Apparently the metal foot style is not available in the US.

I free motion quilt on my Singer 301 all the time and have tried all the feet. I like this foot the best:
