A magnetic pin cushion is a great place to put the gib screw when you are working on the machine. It also doesn't hurt to have another magnet of some kind to wave over the floor in case you drop it - ask me how I know.

Success! Thank you all ! Today I did remove the bobbin case. I admit I was worried that I might make things worse but then I thought if I do then it only means a trip to the sewing machine shop. Removing the gib screw was scary. I did have the perfect screw driver and used tweezers to lift it out. The illustrations on the from the featherweight221factory web site saved the day. When I had the bobbin finger in the EXACT position it lifted right out!
Guess what no thread in there! I did clean and oil the area and put everything back. Took a few tries to get the exact position but I did it. I am one happy person. Thanks to quilting Board I would never have learned so much. I love this message

Forgot to mention my husband was able to get the bobbin case to move ttwit was stuck in any case. I think when I had the thread jam and broken needle the bobbin finger might have shifted out of position.

Me too! I also know about losing that little screw! Mine fell on the floor when I was trying to put it back in place and I used my telescoping magnet to find it. Those magnets come handy in with my machines, pins and needles. Did I mention that the grand kids love them too? They have broken a few playing with them stretched out too long. But they love picking up closed safety pins with them!

Yeah!! I'm glad to hear you got it apart and reassembled.

If you ever do lose the screw, any shop should be able to order it. I don't know if Jenny does special orders or not, but she might be able to as well.

The part # is 200614. I've had to hunt for them too, so I looked it up to know if all was lost if I didn't find it.
Shouldn't be more than a couple $ if needed.

I turn the machine on end (resting on its handwheel on a towel) and use a magnetic screwdriver. It means I only drop it 5 times instead of the surely 20 times the first time when I didn't stand the machine up and use the magnetic screwdriver.

Carole, I'm glad that you were able to fix your machine. Now do you have a name for her? It seems when you have do do something special to get one to work, that machine becomes more special to you, or at least it does to me. A great amount of satisfaction, even though I'm not great at fixing a lot of things like Miriam and the rest. Just baby steps for me at this time.

Looks like it can be found for under $3 in several places online, but I've seen it as high as $6
