Default Singer 306W Chrome Knob Missing

Another sewing machine followed me home. This is a tan 306W. I didn't know much about them when I "bought" this but after searching around here and other places on the web I am learning some.

Now I know that I should have looked to see if the chome knob was with all the #%&@ that came with it. I did get a few bobbins and two bobbin cases. There were a couple of packages of Singer needles but I am not sure if they are the right size.

There was one cam. Can I run the machine without that knob? Is there anything I can substitute for it?

Or have I bought a pig in a poke?

Nope, can't run the discs without the nob. They will flip flop around and pop off the spindle. Check with your LSMG and see if he has one. Or start searching the web, or perhaps ask Miriam, she has some parts machines.

That's going to be hard, but not impossible to find. The 206 nob should work with it as well so that opens up more options.

I don't have one in my stash either. Rubber band? Magnet? EBAY? Good machine - if the needles don't match quite with your normal needles they might work. Ask Mizkaki if she has one in her stash or if she has some idea how to improv

I went to see my OSMG today. He didn't have the Chrome Knob but he put a tiny bobbin winder tire on it and its holding for now. I am still searching for the knob but for now I have the machine up and running and I have the right needles for it.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I am taking notes! Your sewing OSMG should be the Good OSMG!!! You can always get those winder pieces - even a hardware store has something that might do. I tried to get the knob off mine to see what it looks like but it wasn't budging. I oiled it and it will set awhile.

My OSMG is a real treasure. He told me how to fix some cabinet hinges that were stretched out of shape. And I had broken a part on one of my more modern plastic machines. The new part was $65 but he told me how I could fix it with a small screw. He is one in a million!
