Red face Singer 66-1

I have been gifted with a Singer 66-1 Red eye. Can this model be transformed from a treadle to electric? If so, how would I do this? Thanks for any info.

If it has a machine boss on the pillar a motor can be bolted on. I've see all kinds of ways motors have been tacked on the ones with out bosses. I've seen motors screwed on the the wooden case, motors screwed on the the back plate, screws tapped into the side of the machine. Lots of genus - I'm sure you can figure something out. Why not just treadle it? Some times the treadle isn't working or the cabinet is in bad shape. I have stuck a steering wheel spinner knob on and sewn that way. I know Glenn is probably having a heart attack thinking about my suicide knobs but I'm sure you will figure out a way to use the machine.

Miriam, I have the hole for the motor boss, but I do not have the bolt. Does that matter or can I use any machine bolt that fits? Thanks for your info.

You can use any motor mount bolt that fits - the reproduction hand cranks come with a bolt. I think you can buy just a bolt.

The Singer motor bolt is an odd metric size. M7x1.25 I believe. They are almost impossible to find in the U.S. I've done a lot of internet searching and came up empty.

Sew-Classic does sell them individually as well as in the motor kits.

Opinion = I'd refrain from converting a treadle to electric. They work just fine as treadles. If you want an electric cabinet machine get one already made. Lots of them out there.

If the boss is present , Jenny at Sew- Classic can fix you up with motor, cord block, controller, belt, and bolt. I'd contact her for assistance. This can be easily removed if you'd ever want to use as a treadle. Expect to spend around $50. For $5 you can get a belt and use as a treadle which is great fun and exercise. Good Luck

I don't have the treadle case just the Singer machine. A friend found it in one of their barns and gave it to me. I cleaned it and oiled it and it moves very freely.

Those do move freely once they are cleaned up! They are a joy to use.
