Welcome to the group of us who own what I think is the prettiest Singer made, the Red Eye Singers. We need to form a 'club' like the featherwieght owners on here. Yours is just two years older than mine. Love the cabinet she came in. Mine is a portable with the bentwood case. Enjoy !!!!!

Great machine! I like how the decals on the machines found in those fancier parlor type cabinets are usually in such good shape. You are right to find room for that one

They weren't just red eye decals outside of the U.S. I have three of them: One a red eye, one lotus and the third Tiffany/Gingerbread. Wonderful machines, very forgiving, and what a stitch! If they had reverse they'd be perfect.

I have a theory as to why all the second hand 66s are missing the base plates: People find them and can't work out how to remove the base plate. They pull really hard on it, it comes off, and they can't put it back on (because they're trying to put it on the wrong way), therefore it must be broken. What do you do then? Throw it out of course!

Anyone have experience of this? I'd really like to know why they're all missing it. My local sewing parts shop keeps them in stock because there's that much demand for them!

I slid mom's plate too hard and it came off her crinkle 66. I didn't know how to put it back on and didn't think to read the manual. I threw it in my sewing box 30 years ago and it is still there to this day. So, there is a crinkle black 66 out there in the world without its slide plate and I have it. I'm keeping it now in case I run across a machine that needs one. So far, all of the machines I have bought have had their slide plates.

At least you kept it. The replacements from the sewing shop are, I suspect, made in China and thus a bit sub-par. Also they're not nickel plated. I was going to buy up a lot of them and have them all plated so they'd look like the original parts.

Lucky you getting them with the machines. I've bought three now and only one of them came with it. You do support the hypothesis though: When I bought the replacement, even the salesman (who's old and knowledgeable about sewing machines) didn't know how to put it on, so I looked in the manual when I got home.

oweI have the same style cabinet. In there any way you could e-mail me a picture of the open cabinet? I need to create the mechanism that opens the front door. There looks to be a place for a rod/slat to go into. I'd like to open it the way it should be opened. Thank you kindly. Deb99

I have my great grandmother's Red-eye in a cabinet with small slide in & out drawers, two on each side. The cabinet top is in sad shape. A friend gave me another one in much better shape.

Hi, I know this is quite an old post, but I was wondering if you, or anyone with the same cabinet had a spare key, or a picture of their key, as the key has been lost for mine

These are 5 different keys for bentwood cases. not sure about your cabinet. Welcome aboard
