Yes Rocketeer! I came across this video in my quest for understanding the featherweight / Singer tension process.

Default Pic of tension dial

Could you please post a side pic of your tension dial? I have one and am having trouble getting back on in the correct order. Thanks!

Welcome to QB, Sewvintageservice. I don't know if dudenaz has any pictures of the side.of the tension or if he took it apart to clean it. I gather that you have the whole assembly off of the machine. Here are a couple of links that have images of the unnumbered tension assemblies, but they are together. https://www.ebay.com/itm/272386653696 https://www.sewingmachine221sale.com/store/page47.html (about a third of the way down "Singer Tension Complete (new) Without Numbers #55520")
I believe the order would be - Check Spring over Tension Screw Stud (1274), put the Tension Releasing Pin (32574) in the center of the stud, Tension Discs (2102) facing each other so that they look like ) ( then the Tension Releasing Disc (32572), then the Tension Spring (8238) then the Tension Regulating Thumb Nut (1560)

Those part numbers, in parenthesis, can be found on page 57 of the pdf https://www.supsew.com/download/Sing...er%2099-13.pdf

I'm not sure how to describe the position of Tension Releasing Disc. However, https://www.vintagesingerparts.com/p...28-66-99-31-15 looks like how it would go on so that the hub portion is facing you and the spring. 8238 fits around the edge.

Sewvintageservice, We like pictures. In order to post pictures on Quilting Board, you will probably need to reduce or compress the picture to a file size that is smaller than 2MB. How to post images can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...020-01-17-.pdf
Don't forget to scroll over to the far right to find and click on the "Upload" button.

I have found that only the big red "Reply" button or "Quote" work to give me the paper clip icon to work for adding pictures.

Some additional info regarding reducing images at post #4 and images for the scroll and upload button can be found at #5 of quilt block ID?

Here's a couple of pics of the upper tension on the 99K2 I currently use and produces a nice stitch
Not sure if Leon's machine shown is in use or not (poor machine Leon), but looks like the tension is set too tight in my opinion.

Default I need tension dial

I received this 99K over 5 years ago and quickly put it off to the side thinking I had been given junk. I saw what I thought was a missing/broken tension dial with extremely poor stitching quality (the old naive me) . I was lucky enough to get a featherweight 221 a few years ago that I use as a backup to my Pfaff Performance (which I LOVE - I've always been a Pfaff person). Having a featherweight has been a terrific learning experience for me. I've watched endless numbers of videos on YouTube and various sites. Once I got my featherweight in a good running state, I decided to tackle the 99K. I've learned that the tension dial is exactly as it should be and that my issue was really with the tension screw on the bobbin case itself. I am ecstatic to let everyone know that last night I had the 99K making an almost perfect stitch by adjusting and manipulating the tension screw on the bobbin case. I also realized what a powerful machine I have in that 99K! In haste over the weekend, I bought a tension dial for the 66/99 singer - which I can now keep as a spare (if anyone needs a tension dial - let me know). Thanks to all in this forum - your input and comments have been a great help!
I need a tension dial for a 99k Singer made in 1956 and would be willing to buy yours if I can find out from someone on here if yours would work. Thanks.
can you please attach a picture of the one you have? Or tell me where to order one from, please? Thanks
