Default I found this in our barn loft

Climbed up to the loft with my granddaughter to show her a mirror and a ceiling light that she might want and found this machine. After thinking about it for a couple of days, I think I do remember putting it up there years ago before I got interested in the older machines.

It's a Kenmore with the black crinkle finish. Looks like it is straight stitch only. The throat plate (?) is different from what I am used to seeing as it is longer than the bed of the machine. But there is no serial number/model number plate on it. I did find a number stamped onto a little metal plate on the back of it - 63X8642. I've been searching on the internet and can't match this number up to anything so have no idea what it is for.

Wiring is shot but it turns fairly freely although it feels really gritty. I'm working on cleaning it up. I'm surprised it is as good a shape as it is.

Would love to know what model this machine is, if anyone recognizes it. Any info would be appreciated.

Your machine was produced by White (think Family Rotary) and badged as a Kenmore for Sears. From these 2 pages, it looks like your machine was likely made around 1938.

Searching for info on the White Family Rotary should give you a good idea of how the machine works and any trouble shooting or fixing you might do. Fun find!

Wow, Bennett you're gooood!

You must have been so excited to see that machine in a hay loft! I wonder how long it's been hiding there. You should dig around and see what else you can find.

Bennett. Thanks a bunch! I looked for info on Kenmore 63X8642 and never could find a machine. I'm excited to know what it is. I'll get busy and look up more info on it now since I have a better starting point.

Christine - Yep, I was excited to find the machine but not so excited about the snake skin I found lying by it. :-) I am the one that put it up there - I had just completely forgotten about it. It's been there several years. What really tickled me was there was a ton of attachments with it including a Kenmore zigzagger and a buttonholer. I still can't believe all those attachments were there. I don't remember them at all.

See, you just put the machine in a safe place until you were ready to find it again!! At least, that's what I tell myself!!
