Ah well...I suppose I'd rather see someone OVERvaluing a cool old machine rather than just trashing it.

On the first one, I also contacted the seller and had a bit of discussing. They admitting knowing next to nothing about sewing machines, and the person that gave them the machine to sell told them all that info, and they believed them. I sent them pictures of what a 100 year old New Home treadle actually looks like - but I couldn't hook them into getting enthusiastic about vintage sewing machines.

I'm all for having educated eBay sellers - so many of them spend time going to garage sales to find this stuff, so the more people looking with the thought they can turn around and sell it, the more that I get to choose from on eBay. I live rural so going to garage sales to look for myself isn't a practical choice. I'd much rather pay $30 in shipping to get what I want, than pay $30 in gas and several hours and come up empty handed most days.

plainjane - thanks for sharing the link to the Singer machine for $250,00.00 Both hubby and I really enjoyed the belly laughs, especially the responses to the questions. I especially like the statement "ARE YOU A MILLIONARE
WITH EXTRA CASH, MAKE A DIFFERENCE. GIVE BACK!" What a hoot!!!!!!

Pretty ridiculous though there are many objects people would pay $250,000 for and in my mind I'd much prefer the 201.

I saw one better than that when I went to look at the listing. It is a "RARE SINGER" in a table that they will take apart the legs and so on. Only $250,000... Someone asked if the price was wrong, he replied "No it is correct". In the listing he claims it is for a lovely young ladie's education that it is being sold. Lots of crazies out there, lol.

I have seen several listed as treadles that are not. I don't think some people know what "treadle" means. I see that the listing is down now due to errors in the listing!!
