ruby2shoes,

So now that you have your treadle up and running what are you going to make with it?

I've got a modification idea for it, but I won't say anything about it until I know it works.

Hi Joe,
Next step is to get the footwork perfected so lots of practice without a needle in, then moving onto needle with no thread and "sewing" and then the real thing. Want to be really confidant at using the treadle properly before actually doing any sewing. The grand plan is to sew some keepsakes for my grandchildren so they have something made on their great great grandmothers' sewing machine.......thought some nice girlie or blokey cushion covers would be a simple starter project for me and something the children could happily toss on their beds. Would like to progress to more involved items as she has come with a heap of attachments I would like to become proficient with.

That's probably a better way to do it than I did. I threaded my first one up and went to work. I can't begin to tell you how many times it stalled and turned backwards on me. Thread broke over and over again too.
But finally I got the hang of it and now I can sit down at any one of my 5 treadles and make 'em sew.
The first thing I made with a treadle was a circle quilt topper to keep the kitties claws from scarring up the wood any more than it already it. Up close it looks terrible, but it does the job.

Sure there is. I keep telling Elaine the same thing. With 5 functional treadles it's time she learns how to run them.

Default Spool guide

Here is my solution to keep the thread from winding around the spool pin when sewing with a normal spool of thread. It took several tries to get the heigth right. If to low the thread will droop down but this seems right and it works well.
