Default Turquoise Brother Precision Machine

I'm a long time sewer / quilter, first time collector!

I was at an estate auction yesterday where there were 7 sewing machines. I ended up with 3, I think my hubby believes I cracked up!

I'm hoping someone can help me date this beautiful made in Canada Brother!

One VERY nice machine. Is it light weight? The bobbin area works like the Japanese 15 clones - the biggest difference is that the tension is on the front rather than on the side. Here are some more Japanese machines to look at: http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...s-t207877.html
also you can post a picture there, too.

Very cool looking machine ... really caught my eye. I looked at a machine just like that on E-bay the other day ... he wanted too much (for me) for it though. Oh ... wait ... there are a few like that.

Unfortunately neither of the ad's were helpful in dating them.

The pic does not do it justice for the beautiful turquoise colour. It even had the manual but nowhere is the date! Not bad for $15

If you have the manual, there might be a copyright date on the first or second page. There is on my 99-31. (1956) but I know that it was purchased new in 1957.

Brother sewing machine serial numbers are coded to indicate the manufacture date of the machine. The letter and first number indicate the month and last digit of the year the machine was made. Because the first number in the serial number could correspond to a year in any decade, you need help from Brother International Corp., the machine's manufacturer, to determine when the machine was made. You can submit an email request through the company's website.
