CarrieAnn, you have a Model 15 clone. It's a great machine, a real workhorse, very reliable. I use mine to piece quilts. It's a real sweetie. You should be able to straight-line quilt on it with no trouble, and I think it will drop feed dogs so you can free-motion quilt.

I have not tried attachments with mine (such as those used for the Singer Model 15). They might work. Any short shank feet should work.

There is a Yahoo group called something like "vintagejapansewingmachines" and they will have more info for you.

For the person who asked how to clean the 401, first try a damp (not wet) soft cloth with water. From the pics, that should do the trick, and if not, let us know.

You can get a NON PUMICE hand cleaner, a bunch of cotton balls and a roll of paper towels and you can clean the rascal right on up!!

Then you can use a pure carnuba wax to polish it and your good to go.

I found a Model 66 in a cabinet. The cabinet is pretty rough, but restorable. The machine looks pretty good in the picture. She is asking for a best offer, but I have no idea what to offer. I have the serial number and it is a 1930 model. It is electric, not treadle. Any ideas?

Hi everyone, I am feeling under the weather with a splitting headache, dizziness, and just plain exhausted. I have slept most of the day and just took a shower a little while ago hoping to feel better but nope it didnt help any. So that is why I have not been in the shop much today. Or in my studio working on these machines I have waiting for me to refurbish and service. Yes even the shop owner can feel under the weather every once in a while! :lol: :lol

I am hoping a little R&R might help that also includes going to meet Charlees brother and pick up a D-9 she sent me tomorrow sometime!!! I am so excited to see it!!! But I am checking in every once in a while to make sure things are running smoothly and to see the new machines that you guys have purchased.

Just typing this is wearing me out, kinda has me worried because I never feel this way nor do I get sick much. But I hope that you guys are doing well and you are having fun looking for machines and finding the next rare jewel!!

I hate it when they do that dont you? I always tell them its their machine they need to set a price. When they persist I always tell them I will pay them $15 and then they come up with a number, which is usually well over $100. :roll: :roll:

For some reason this term always rubs me the wrong way. They are not clones at all, they are copies. Or what I just refer to as a Japanese 15.

In all actuality the Japanese version is more refined than the original. The quality and fit of the parts are way more superior than the machine that they are modeling it after. This type of machine is still in production and being use all around the world especially the under developed countries as treadles.

I have worked on several Singer 15's and the Japanese 15 that I have is way better than the Singers that I have tested and used.

But that does not make me not want a Singer 15 because I do, I just prefer the Japanese 15 over the Singer.
