I know most of you guys have been to this web site, but for those of you that have trouble indentifying your vintage Singers, this site has some really great picturs and explainations on how to identify your machines.

A VS II is a vibrating shuttle machine with fiddle base. (There's also a VS I, but they were only made for 2 years and are rarely found--I've had only 2 through here in all my years of hunting and gathering.) They look like a Singer 27 except for the fiddle base.

A badged machine is one made by one of the major manufacturers for another company, and instead of the manufacturer's name will have what ever name the company wants. For instance, Sears bought machines from National, Davis, Domestic, Standard, White, and Goodrich and badged them all "Minnesota".

Model 28/128 and model 99 are all 3/4 size; measure the bed of the machine and you will see it is 6 1/2" x 12" as opposed to the full-sized machines dimensions of 7" x 14 3/4".

As for mine, I bought the cabinet with a not-so-nice head, then bought another cabinet with a beautiful head and put the two together, then sold the 2nd cabinet with yet another VS II head I had around here. (I still have two VS II heads in rather rough condition around here; I had been trying to put this one together for a while!)

Wow, so I have two 3/4 size machines now -- a 99K and the 28 I got yesterday!

Ok a badged machine is made by a major manufacturer and labeled something else, so how do we know it is a 'badged' machine? Knowing what is a 'badged' machine and what is not, is that just something you have to learn or is there some reference somewhere with that information? Does it matter that it is a 'badged' machine?

I am still very excited over my hand crank 1898 that I found yesterday! I now have 5 treadles, oh my!

OMG, I have just won an ebay auction for a FW222! I am still sitting here shaking. I had no idea I was going to buy this, but I couldn't resist putting in a late bid.

It was a similar situation to when I bought my white one, hardly any bids because it has a 240v motor (which is what Ireland uses). Now I just have to wait to hear from the vendor about cost of shipping to get it here. Without the shipping, I got it for $376.52!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was that a bargain, or was it a bargain? I just looked up to see if I could see how old it is, and it's another one of those things where I can't see 'my' serial number mentioned. It's quoted as EK631023. Billy, can you help please?

A quick peek at the serial number chart shows August 16, 1955 with 10,000 machines authorized that day....good buy, to say the least....WAY TO GO LADY!!!!!

Still shaking Darcene - thank you for the date, I couldn't find it mentioned on the Singer site. There is another one on ebay at the moment, again with a 240v motor, and its priced at almost $700. I'm still not sure whether I have done something clever or stupid! Did I really need another machine? I think it was more a want than a need, plus it seemd such a bargain at the time.

Very nice machine looks as if it's hardly been used. You are a very lucky lacelady. I would love to have one but cost way toooo much over here. :mrgreen:
