I use the Singer buttonholer on my featherweight and on my Janome 6500 all the time as I don't like the automatic built in buttonholer on my Janome. The buttonholer for a featherweight will fit any short shank machine including newer machines. I am puzzled however Tommilou as to how the buttonholer you purchased will fit either short shank or slant machines as the slant shank machines wouldn't have the screw hole needed to attach the buttonholer in the same place and the buttonholer would sit too high. Slant shank buttonholers have their attachment post in a different spot. Everything else about them is the same.

woohoo, lots of good reading on those pages. wanted to say that whren younger had a plain machine that had an automatic buttonholer built in. i got a singer buttonholer with the cams and liked it a lot better. i picked one up at a garage sale for a dollar some time ago, and have two or three that have come with my vintage machines. if anyone on this board would like one just pm me and we will work something out.

My husband's feet or boots are rough on his socks, and I darn them all the time, but don't have a darning egg so I use a metal ice cream scoop. I am 48, and am tired of buying socks for one time wearing.
My mother used to darn socks by hand (she just turned 89), using a darning egg :-D ....she still has that egg...LOL!

Tomilu, Congrats on your Rocketeer and all the goodies that came with it.
So, that is what a darner looks like; a bit wicked looking to me.
I remember my mom using a mushroom shaped wooden darner. One day she announced to my dad "that's it. I'm not doing that anymore, socks don't cost that much these days and I have more interesting sewing projects to do."
