My friend Pam has been trying to do this--a regular HC won't fit for some reason. I'm going to have her check it out and see how this was done!!

We all studied this over the weekend, and finally decided it has had a new hole drilled in the boss. A little more than I am ready to tackle!!

She is old enough to be considered vintage thats for sure! I say go get it and lets help you get it back into service and use it like it is supposed to be doing!! :thumbup: :thumbup:

:shock: :roll: Leave it to Sears to sell a sewing machine that shouldn't really be used very much. It must have been one of their "Bait and Switch" items..... :shock: They were famous for that back in the 60's and 70's.

Wow, very pretty.... VM, That's a different type than the VS machines. Is that a transverse shuttle? I know little about the older shuttle mechanisms. If it is indeed the transverse, what are the pros and cons of this particular system?

I don't know anything about this type of machine since I haven't taken an interest to research about them. Maybe Miz Johnny or someone else that owns one can fill you in. Just start with a google search.

I haven't been around much this weekend; this was our annual "sleepover" for some of my sewing machine friends. The posting for this machine is gone already, but I posted a picture last week of my "new" little Vesta, so am assuming it is the same thing.

The shuttle in a transverse machine travels in a straight line, rather than an arc like a vibrating shuttle. The shuttles are "boat" shaped, with one side open. I love sewing on them; they are very simple machines.

I love the old patterns, too--I have more than my share of them!!

She made it herself, using some sort of compound her husband uses to make fossil replicas. I had seen the mold she created, but hadn't yet seen the completed project--so I was truly impressed.

Some of the Singer flat cams are a bit scarce--the #1 zigzag and the hemstitch cams come to mind off-hand. Hers work great!!

Yes, it is. I found one several years ago and used it first as a treadle, and later as a handcrank. I love it--sews like a dream. My friend Di kept trying to talk me out of it, and this fall I found her one . She has it cleaned up and sewing, but was "coaxing" something loose. I had to take a picture of it, as we all kept saying, "I wouldn't do that if I were you!" She wound up just tapping it though, so it's all good.
We all met through Treadleon and all live within 6 or 7 hours of each other, so get together at various places several times throughout the year. I have met some of the best friends I've ever had on the internet.
We had a great weekend; spent some of it eating and drinking a bit of champagne (necessary for working on some of the older machines), some of it at quilt shops and antique malls, and the majority tearing down machines on my kitchen table!! I didn't even take the tablecloth off, just put on a piece of plastic. Yeah, we're classy.
We're getting together at the Cincinnati quilt show in April--anyone else going to be there?
