Information is abundant. Join Needlebar, and go check out the Yahoo groups for the types of machines you have. ISMACS is an excellent resource too!
Hi Charlee -- I joined Needlebar a few months ago, and they cancelled my membership because "..no contributions to the community." They don't want any questions about machine repair or maintenance. They want everyone to state how they will contribute to the "museum" information on the site. They are very picky!! Not very friendly. I don't know how long they think they will keep people going there if all they want is input for their "museum".
I never joined them. And, I refuse to join this coterie.

You can't take the machines with you when you die. So, you might as well start educating the next group of stewards by being inclusive. That means making it easier to find information on these vintage machines on the internet.

Okay I can see now that you all can not see what I am seeing with the machine and I hope that when it is out on the floor for everyone to play with that they will be able to catch the subtle things that make this quite the nice machine. Take some time and really study it and you will know why I want to buy a couple........... And yes this machine will be sought after like the Centennial in a few years.

Billy
Since I won't be around in 50 or 60 years to redeem the value because it's an anniversary model, I don't think it's worth the $$....my kids can make their own investments!
Besides...the Centenial models don't sell for more than what our moms and grandmoms paid for them...~shrug~ Sewing machines are simply NOT a hot item..look at what we get our old machines for...unless it's rare, and trust me, they'll make enough of these for it not to be rare, sewing machines aren't a smart investment.

Just my two cents.
I agree that sewing machines are NOT great investments. Fun to sew with, YES!! Only if the market is right will you be able to make some money, but never a fortune.
My FW has been around since 1936. Do you think the new one will be around in 75 years? And still working beautifully? I would like to play with one, though!

I'm not very impressed either. And aren't the machines made by the "new" Singer company not as good? I'm definitely not chomping at the bit to run out & get one. Especially for $500-$600.
Just think of all the cool vintage machines you can purchase with that money!!!
OH MY LET'S DO A PRETEND!!! Look on your local CL and see how many machines you can buy for $500. I wonder who will find the most!
LOL I do that often...that's how I found my free machines.

Every day I look on Craigslist within a 300 mile radius - no luck so far Janice. :(
I think I've seen 2 so far this year looking around. Both in pretty sad shape, but I'm really excited to get this one. This will be a good winter project. It's a little smaller in person than I thought it would be. I can't wait to get it home and start working on it.

I wonder if they were more popular in the East? Interesting how certain machines and styles seem to be more prevalent in different areas. Lots of Singers here, not as many other brands.

It wasn't hard to come up with a ton of machines for $500 - $600 and these already exist and just need a home. Why waste resources on new machines. These old ones will work just fine maybe some need TLC but not very hard to come up with a lot of bang for the buck. AND these probably would mostly be around in $75 years. What is out there where you live?

Ms. Lovely, I doubt the new machine will last 10 years if used daily, while your FW will keep on going.

My Singer VS2, which is 125 years old, still makes a pretty stitch. I got that one for free off of CLs. I just needed to reassemble the cabinet that was missing the screws, handles and nuts. I had all of those parts from another cabinet (free) that had seen better days.

That was fast shopping!
There are some very NICE machines there. The first one is a pretty greenish gray, second is a fun one, third has the stool with it, and fourth has the beautiful cabinet too.
