Then I saw one on ebay for local pick up only, but it was in Illinois, i'm in Texas - thus you see geographical problem :-) i was lamenting to my wonderful hubby that I may be on the forever-for-nothing search for a read eye treadle, when he said, bid on it, if you win, we'll go get it together (gosh, i LOVE this man!). So, I did, I won, we went! Here she is in all her glory, and her fantastic price of $56, she's a 1910. if that wasn't' great enough, the person who sold her also had a "portable" singer and asked was I interested!. I bought that machine for $20. I need your help, I have no idea what type of machine this tiffany decal machine is, her wooden cabinet is in rough shape but the machine looks great, she's a 1916. there is a hamilton beech motor attached to the back of this machine, I plan to take it off an make it a hand crank. Any ideas what type of machine she is?
What beautiful "sisters." I've been seeing more of the Tiffany decals here, and they are very pretty.

Look at the difference of the machines.

Your machine will be gorgeous once cleaned up.

Enjoy treadling with her.
Thanks Vintagemotif! I was surprised that the decals were Tiffany! They are in pretty good shape for being 104 years old. This is the surprise to me machine. I had bought the cabinet about 6 years ago and completely forgot that there was a sewing machine it the cabinet. I had just found this site and have my MIL's treadle and went to check it out. It will go to my sil, as it was her mom's. While checking it out, I glanced over to my cabinet and while looking at the drawers, noticed a sewing machine it it! My Mil's is Free #5
I'll attach a photo of it also.Jan on 446

The decals are in really good shape for it's age.
I don't know how old it is etc. Haven't checked for a serial number on it. I'm not even sure there is a listing for the Free's. I know someone on this site when I first joined and I had written about it, said they didn't know Free made a #5 and wanted more information about it. Life got in the way so didn't get back to check the serial number. I'll try to get it done soon.

I own a Free No.5 too. The treadle is broken and I haven't gotten around to fixing that yet. I'm slowly cleaning and fixing the broken machines/treadles. I love the decals on the Free No. 5. I really should bring that machine into the house and have it also decorate my bookcase along with my other machines, since I can't use it right now.

Nancy, owns a Free No.5 that she treadles.

My Free has the same decals and they clean up very nice. Took her to the church quilt show last week, she got LOTS of attention. I had a hard time demoing due to the rotator cuff injury I am enduring. Sure do enjoy treadling, cant wait to get this fixed. Oh, also, I am soooo disappointed! Due to bad timing, my DSIL was not able to get the Davis VF. DH has declaired road trip, maybe after surgery and during recouperation, unless someone gets there sooner. I just hope she finds a good home.

Anybody know anything about--or have an opinion on--an Elgin Riccar sewing machine? I used to have a Riccar and liked it, but traded up for my Pfaff 130. But I didn't know that Elgin and Riccar were related. This one is a free arm, metal body/unknown innards, with a manual and "some stuff", for $35. I'm sorta interested, but it's an hour from here, and I don't *really* need another machine...

this one

I want it bad, but not for that price, now especially.
IF you want a White in treadle, this may be a good deal.

I already have a White Family Rotary in a twiggy cabinet I found on Craigs List for $50. It was my first working treadle and she is so pretty! It was the lotus decals I was drooling over. I haven't seen one in person before. And they dinged it all up!

I finally found a treadle at a decent price, (and close by!) but now I need to know what kind of questions to ask. Do they use bobbin cases?

If it works out, then I need to figure out how to get it home... I doubt it will fit in my Geo Metro!

What kind of needles?
