Hi there-I'm pretty new here although I have been lurking for some time!! Love the board...Now I have a question about an old singer I found at a thrift store. It has a serial number of AL 752504 but I don't know what model it is. How do I tell the model? I looked the machine over good but that was the only # I found. I did look up the # and found it was made in 1954. Can someone help me?
Thanks!

I checked the charts. It appears you have a model 15. 50,000 were allotted on May 11, 1954. I do not know when they started putting the model number on the machines.

It should be a singer 15. You can confirm that by looking for the location of the tension knob. The Singer 15 has it on the chrome faceplate, and it threads down the faceplate. Good sturdy machine!

Thanks for the info!! Is it worth $30 that the thrift store is asking for it? It really needs alot of cleaning up & I haven't ever restored a sewing machine before, it is in a cabinet & looks to have all its parts.

Quick question for someone in the know. Started working on a very dirty find, cant wait to see the transformation. Anyhooo, looked up the info, she is a 1904 27K, #J229956. In the notes field there is an "R". Anyone know what it means? That run of 45000 has the note, the following run, also 27K, of 2000 does not have the note. TIA

Kathie, can you e-mail me Cathy's number from the TOGA - I lost it!

Nancy[/quote]

Nancy, I had an air head moment. Just before I got my new computer I deleted all of my e-mail address off of the old computer. The minute I got through I realized I should have written them down first. E-mail me something first so I will have your address. Thanks the air head, Kathie

Yep! It is... :) It's not hard to clean and restore a machine to function, it's fun, and there's a GREAT sense of accomplishment that goes with it! ;)

The shortbed looks bigger than the longbed, is it? Or is it the way pic took?

Yes. if you like it it is worth $30. I have seen people ask MUCH more than that every day on CL. I have 4 clones - I've had to do something to all but one of them. I have a post on here just for links and information on fixing up a sewing machine. If you run across more than you can handle we might be able to walk you through it. Muv has some wonderful videos on cleaning up an old sewing machine. It doesn't have to be the exact model she has for you to get info to do your machine. If you have a copy of an owner's manual it would help. There are links on my links & info post to find manuals. Somewhere on here I posted a service manual link for a 15 clone. If you can follow directions to make a quilt you can follow the directions to fix your machine. a link to the link post http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-163578-1.htm

Glen this is one of the machines you coached me for the needle breaking thread last night. It is my latest fix up - before and after shots. Later on I would like to start a post for just only pictures of Singer 15s and the 15s clones. If you have a 15 clone please feel free to post pics on there. I'd like it to be mainly photos - we can comment on here or pm. It won't be until later on. Just be ready to put your 15's pic on there please - I'll send a link here when it is ready to go.
And a special thanks to Melinda for making it all possible! She is a real fan of the 15 clones too.

This is a Singer 15 clone - it was made in Japan. No idea what date. It is badged Kingston and the motor says Brother.

Griest attachments on the machine and a nice kit in front - the box is painted to match the machine. This machine also came with a manual.
