The 99k came in a cabinet (bad finish), and I was thinking I could use the top off that and put that on the treadle base, making whatever modifications I would need to make it fit over the legs properly. I don't like the color of the cabinet, so also had the idea to paint it all a nice glossy black, maybe with some gold details (kind of like on the machine itself). I figure if I have to cut off the legs or remove a side, I might as well make it a color I like. Any ideas? I'm wondering if my day dreaming is getting to be too big a project! How much glossy black is too much?? The hand crank would definitely be easier.
Bennett why don't you strip the cabinet top and restain and finish it? Glenn has a tutorial on here somewhere. I have done that with several cabinets. They come out looking great and I think the wood look will probably last longer than the glossy black look. In fact, we bought a Wheeler & Wilson that someone had painted the cabinet black at one time and painted the irons gold. We stripped the cabinet and completely re-finished it - it came out beautiful!

Ok you guys what am I doing wrong. I went to 'Go advanced" and scrolled down to "manage attachments," to add some photos. I click on 'manage attachments' and nothing happens? No box to add the photo, no place to add the photo? What am I doing wrong?

Nancy,

"Go Advanced", "Manage Attachments" You should get a pop up that has a button that says "Choose File"

Click on that and choose the file from your computer to upload.

Do you have popups blocked?

I don't know if the screw broke or fell out or even came with it. It's such a tiny, tiny screw. Since I don't have it, I can't measure it and figure out how tiny it is to try and order one from sew-classic. So, this leads me to a question, is it ok to quilt it if that little thingy isn't on there? Is it going to mess up anything in the machine if it's not on there? I'm not sure when I can get back to the shop or if he'll have the right one on hand. He says he has a ton of small ones. The one he gave me to replace it is really tiny, but still too big for the hole.

I have some projects that need quilted before the end of the month. I want to get on these soon. Managed to get some basted the other day, but need more spray, pins, and pain free moments to get on the floor and finish the rest.

Mpeters, the little thingy you are talking about, is it the 'check spring' that takes up the tension in the thread as you sew to keep from getting jumped/messed up stitches? Most of the really old machines will work without the 'check spring.' Sometimes you won't get the nice stitch, though, as that 'check spring' is what keeps the tension even on your thread when you're sewing. Billy sold me a check spring in the past; and, he probably has the one you need. You should PM him about it.

I bet I do have them blocked, my husband has a thing about pop-ups! Geeze, in order to post a picture I have to have pop-ups un-blocked for my computer? I click on the blue box that says ' Managage Attachments" and I get nothing. It is like the box is disabled or something - no 'Choose file' comes up nothing happens?

Nancy, you should be able to enable pop-ups for this website only. I'm not entirely sure how to do that now, I'm running Windows 7 on Google Chrome...and it's a new system to me.
