I have decided it is a "vintage" not an "antique".
Nellybelle, the JA machines were usually made in Japan. There are no records to date the machine exactly. New Home - a company from 1879 through 1927 - was bought out by Free Sewing Machine Company or was it Free Westinghouse?, but continued to operate as a subsidiary of Free under the New Home Name. Then in 1960 the New Home - subsidiary of Free - was purchased by Janome Sewing Machine Co of Japan. I'd guess her machine is at least a 1960 or later version if it was made by Janome? I think there were some Singer Model 15 clones with the JA in the serial number that are older than 1960 - like the late 40's on, but we still can't date them exactly. You should post a picture, but don't ask me how as I still am not able to post pictures to this group!
Oh you can call New Home or send the serial number to the New Home Sewing Machine Co, PO Box 25901, Los Angeles 25, California. I don't have the phone number, but someone on here does. The New Home office can date some of their machines through 1955.

Janome has the records for New Home. Call 1-800-631-0183 and give them the serial number and they can tell you what year it was made. You can call Monday thru Friday.

NANCY and everyone else having difficulty posting photos,
For those that are having difficultly posting pictures, it's helpful to reset your settings to "enhanced interface". This then sets up a different format for your reply. The reply section then has a menu above the area to post with bars, (font, size, smilies, and images), that can be used. I found this easy to use after changing my settings. Here are directions to do the change which is taken from another post.

Go to settings--top right; then to general settings--scroll down list on left. Now scroll to Misc settings and check enhanced interface. See below----Make sure to save changes.

Miscellaneous Options

Message Editor Interface:
• Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing
• Basic Editor - A simple text box
• Standard Editor - Extra formatting controls

After doing this you quick reply box will have more features and one is an image of a picture (looks like a tree) that you click on to upload images. I do not use the go advance, just quick reply. Don't forget to SAVE. Hope that helps!

Yes, that's a cool feature! also found if at bottom of page just hit the "Top" at the bar on the bottom and it takes you to the top quickly.

Monica I already have the 'enhanced' checked. Also I tried the 'quick reply' and I found the icon that says 'image' but how do I get a photo from my desktop to that spot. I tried dragging, that didn't work. I don't get a message asking for the 'image?'

Monica, for some reason, Nancy's not getting the pop up box for images...I tried to figure it out this morning, didn't work! (I'm just not guru enough!)

Well it worked sort of! Monica I did what you said, but I had to do an 'edit reply' then go to the 'image' icon to download a photo. I don't know why the second picture appears to be half there - at least on my computer?

Anyway, I was trying to show Bennett, what happens to a cabinet that had been painted black after 50 years or so. The before and after of my Wilcox & Gibbs.

Nancy

The previous post with the ugly cabinet that looks gray - was painted a glossy black at one time - is the original of this now re-finished cabinet!

Yeah! It worked this time - the whole picture came through! Sorry everyone! I will go do some work now!
