Well I did have a picture to post here but will need to just tell you about the picture. I went to delete the bury picture in my phone and it took both of them. Darn smarter than I stuff anyway!

Was in an antique store today and had a tear in my eye when I left. Someone had taken a beautiful Singer treadle out of it's cabinet, built a box like stand for it, then drilled a hole in the top of the arm of the machine and made a lamp base out of the machine. The wheel still turned and the needle worked. At first I thought someone had needed more light. Then it dawned on me there was no treadle to make it work. Looked on the backside to see if a motor had been added. Nope, it was now just a lamp! So sad!!

Here's another sad one:

I hate to see them do this to an old metal sewing machine. Why can't they do it to the new plastic ones instead?!

I can't agree more. Is that the same guy that makes stuff out of the legs too?

I just got my first 401! This machine was originally posted on Craigslist for $80, lowered to $60, and I got it today for $50! I love it, it reminds me of my 503a Rocketeer, but it sews without cams. It is a 1961 machine, works great. I have been playing with it all evening! http://sacramento.craigslist.org/hsh/2832976648.html

Congrats, Nancy. It's a GREAT machine. I had to realign the needle position on mine, but it's one of my favorites.

I like those slant-o-matic machines too - my favorite. I think I like the 403 best - most versatile.

I have a question about the Singer walking foot attachment. Specifically the one they call the penguin.
What or which machines were they designed to fit?
I read of them being for the Featherweights, will they fit other low shank Singer machines as well?

I've never seen one in person, only in pics, so I really have no idea about them.

Thanks,

Joe

They are specifically made to fit the narrow feed dogs of the low shank Singers like the 221, 185 etc. So, yes, they will work on machines with the narrow feed dogs that are LOW Shank. I had a penguin and sold it.
