If it sews and has tension issues' like needing a TON of upper tension it is probable that the needle bar and timing were 'adjusted" for the 15 series needles. Get you some correct needles and i will try to find my service mans manual. I reset everything on mine, not difficult, slightly confusingand time consuming, but not difficult... and I can try to help you out when I get back. Mine is working on all of the fancy stitches I have and I think I got it all right ;-)

Greywuuf, Dan, did you just post something about your 306 being in a teadle? I know I saw it because I went and looked at your u-tube of you treadling the 306! I like your black machine better than the mocha 306 I just bought. Do you have any trouble with the decorative stitches when you treadle? I did when I first started treadling my 319W!

To all of you who answered my questions on Kathie's Brother, I haven't seen the machine, but I figured it took normal class 15 bobbins and a class 15 case. I don't plan on timing it, but I guess I wouldn't be too afraid to try.

Have you seen my video of the 306 in a treadle stand? it works rather well.

thats a black 306 in an old ( not fully adjusted and clunky) 27 treadle... the treadle is made in 1900 112 years old... the machine is mid 50's
Ok Dan I am confused? I know there is an open and a closed bobbin case, but I thought they were interchangeable for the 306/319's?

The veneer can be just lifted off, the seat is minus all vinyl, the feet are all split and coming apart. The drawers are in ok shape, we thought about just dropping it off at our local Hospice on the way home with the machine, but felt it was in too bad a shape to even do that! No, that cabinet along with a Spartan cabinet (I think) are going to the dump! I am not going to even try to re-do them!

I thought about Cathy maybe having the bobbin case. I am a little worried about the machine. I have been trying to wipe all the oil that the manual soaked up and cleaning the machine so I haven't had a chance to see it it will sew. Then we had company! Anyway, there were regular 15x1 needles in the cabinet drawers, which worried me - then I found a receipt for $42 from 1976 for re-timing the machine. I took out the needle and sure enough it was a 15x1 - not a 206x13 - which means the machine was re-timed or someone who didn't know what they were doing tried using that needle! Now, I have a few minutes I will finish cleaning the lint, etc., out then see if the machine will sew with my 319w bobbin case! Keep your fingers and toes crossed for me!

You remember the seat I redid right? It was vinyl and terrible:< Now it's cute. How about this? Put them on the curb and put an ad on CL saying they're in bad condition, but free. You won't have to deal with meeting people etc. and I would bet you someone claims them to refinish. And you won't have to pay to dump them. What do you guys pay up there? I think our fee is $7 or so....

I hope it wasn't retimed for the 15x1 needles..yikes. But, if all the discs etc. are with it, it was worth the $ and the trip. If Cathy doesn't have an extra you can check Sew Classic. I know they're available on ebay for $15 or so.

It took a week of oiling, sitting in the sun, trying to crank the hand wheel a tiny fraction every once in a while, - it finally freed up and sews perfectly now! I am hoping this 201 does the same thing. I took the feed dogs off, removed the position finger guide, there is no lint - nothing I can see to cause the tie up! I will just keep trying to free him up. I don't think he got a drop of oil nor lubricant in 60 years!

This one is in excellent condition except for where the wires melted and drooled down onto the front some how. It is a true black side. I think it turns just fine. It is going to be mainly cosmetics on that one.

There is a Singer 15-90 with a super bad case of RUST everywhere. It would have to be redone just for the love of it - much rust on the 15-90 - it too, is a blackside.

Both machines were in really fine cabinets.

I just picked up this 306w! I don't want the cabinet - we will probably make a dump haul with it! The machine looks to be a very good shape, but it is missing its bobbin case! What is it with these bobbin cases? I only gave $25 for the machine without the bobbin case! I know the 206, 306, 319 all take a special 'L' bobbin, special 206x13 needles - so I assume the bobbin case will be hard to find! I was not willing to pay more than $25 without the case! The cabinet was full of stuff! A buttonholer, 9 feet, a couple slide plates, and 7 fashion disks so the machine was worth the price. Besides, I have a bobbin case for my 319w, so I can use either machine - the problem is a friend wants this 306w to put in a treadle so I will need to find a bobbin case! http://sacramento.craigslist.org/atq/3030319283.html

I believe I found one at sew-classic - maybe Cathy has one...

When I got my 319 I had to order the bobbin case, but wasn't sure which one, open or closed, so I ordered both. I am thinking hard about which one it is, because I tried the one that worked in the 306 and it didn't, but it had other issues too. The one on my 319 has a slot cut for a notch, like a keyway type slot, and a little thing sticking out in the the race where the other one wouldn't work. I think there was a more expensive one and a less expensive one, and the more expensive one was the right one. #173058 was the order number, but seems like there was something about the k or w or some such thing. I am trying to research it, but my computer is having a sh*t fit today.

Yes, Candace I remember the seat you re-did - it is very cute now! I may keep the seat and re-do it, but not the cabinet. We can't put things out on a curb, we don't have a curb. I live on a small horse ranch with a gravel road about 1/2 mile long to get to the automatic gate to where our driveway starts! We have to make a dump haul anyway about once a year just to clean up!

Ok, Melinda, Dan, and Candace, I tried the bobbin case for the 319w in the 306w - no go! Geeze, why would Singer do that? They both take the weird little 206x13 needles, and the weird 'L' bobbins - so why aren't the bobbin cases interchangeable? I am going to visit Sew Classic and see if I can tell the difference!

remember you might have a needle bar/timing issue as well. depends on how it is a no go.... just wont fit or the needle hitting.
