Need help removing the gear collar from the balance wheel. It's seized on. I've tried the following: twisting, prying (gently as I didn't want to damage the collar or the textolite gear), heat with a blow dryer, re-inserting the screws part way to use as a pry to twist off. All no-go.

Freeze it??

I found a Dressmaker vibrating shuttle machine in excellent condition for less than $15.00. I am not familiar with this machine but it is simple enough to operate and sews a beautiful stitich. It is very much like the Singer 28. I will post pics later any info would be appreciated.

I went back and looked and it is not a Dressmaker it is a Good Housekeeper. Here are the pics.

The Good House Keeper is made in Japan and is MDL LS. It is a very close copy of a singer down to the motor boss the only diff is the stitch regulator is under the handwheel adjusted by a lever like a Jones. I want this to be HC if all things line up well. I really like the older treadles and HC but just could not resist this little thing sitting on the floor in the shop getting stepped on. It will be fun to play with anyway.

Looks like my Compac. Which was made by National. It is a straight stitch. A cute machine.
It has been found labeled with several other names.

Hi Jon,

Thank you for your help. It is a Domestic Minnesota A, looks just like the second picture. I went to our local mom and pop hardware and found a stainless steel pin that works perfectly. I hadn't realize the screw in the collar of the one rod is actually a set screw. Slide the pin in and tightened down the screw and it's good to go. Now to find a spring for the thread tensioner. I'll be checking with Jennie after the holidays.

Always nice when the local hardware store has the fix. The Domestic "A" resembles the Singer 27, uses the same shuttle and bobbin, and hopefully your needed spring will be the same and easily available.
