Question Which vintage for sewing rug with 'leather' edging?

A friend needs to attach a 'leather' like edge to a canvas backed area rug and wondered if one of my machines could handle it.

Before I make a test on the actual leather and rug, I thought I'd ask the experienced 'heavy duty' sewers out there what machine they use.

I have a 66, 301, 401, and 501 to chose from (at least I think those are all the correct numbers).

Which should I try first? Should I just say no? Hahahaha!

Thanks in advance!

Nan

How big is the rug? Someone will need to walk with the rug edge to the left of your machine as you sew the edge. It would depend on how thick the rug is that you are sewing the leather to. I don't know if my Singer treadle would be able to tackle that one and it sews though almost everything.

I'd probably try the 66 first, but it really depends on the leather and make sure you have the appropriate needle.

Depends on how thick the material is - be sure to use a leather needle.

You need to be able to get it under the presser foot.

Thanks for all the advice - especially about having someone help me!

The pile on the rug is not thick....it's almost flat. There is a weaved backing (not rubberized). The leather almost looks fake...pleather?

IF I tackle it, I'll post pictures!
