Opinions will differ on which antique machines are the best. It would be like trying to say which of your children was your favourite. There are many experts on the antique machine section of QB and if you read older posts you will gleam some valuable information.

I own a 201, 401A, FW, 15-90, 99 (multiples of most. Can't pass up a deal). If you want opinions on our favorites, I always go to my 201 first . . . then my featherweight if the job is small or I'm on the move.

If you can tell us what you want the machine to do, we can be more helpful.

Go out into the wild and pick a few, bring them home and play with them. When I began "acquiring" machines I thought my interests were strictly with treadles ... lately started playing with electric machines and I find that I like them a whole lot too.

My favorite is the one I've got on the bench at the time you ask me cause I'm currently having fun with it.

My favorites are my Singer 15-91 (great for free motion quilting), Singer 201 (handcrank powerhouse) and my Featherweight (beautiful stitch, portable, and cute). Hate my Singer 328. I also have a 66-1 treadle which I love to use, but am not very good at it.
Maybe a friend has a model or two you could play with. Good luck!

What do you hate about the Singer 328?
