Hi All, I was playing around with my Singer model 66 treadle (now known as Ernestine) to get proficient at it so I can use it for piecing. I have a vintage zig zag attachment that came with my Singer 201-2 (now known as Mabel) and since both machines are low shank, I put it on Ernestine and gave it a whirl. It works great. I tried the zig zagger on a scrap piece of a quilt sandwich and I thought it looked pretty good and thought about using that to do the quilting on my current project instead of just SID. Just curious, has anyone ever used a zig zag stitch for quilting?

I can't say that I've ever used a zig zag for quilting but why not. I think it may look pretty cool. Maybe try a small quilt sandwich first to see if you will like it. And I'd love to know how it turns out.

Those stitches look great. I thought I had seen some pictures of decorative stitches used to quilt. Many have used a serpentine stitch. There is a post by tessagin at Quilting in the Ditch?????? that says uses a zigzag for stitch in the ditch quilting.

I hadn't thought of that. Thank you for the suggestion. I have tons of batting and spare material where I can try that. I also have an orphan log cabin block that could be used for a test. I may try that this weekend. It is supposed to be a washout here in the Upstate of SC.
