It's a blurry picture my sister sent. Can someone ID it anyway? My sister says it was my grandmother's Singer, but it really doesn't look like a Singer to me. But I'm no expert. To me it looks more like a White.
Either way I'm excited because my sister is bringing it to me from Kansas. My grandmother learned upholstery from her dad and grandfather. They would upholster buggy seats and later seats of Model T and Model A cars. My uncle (who let me choose from her two existing machines via blurry pictures only) reupholstered his own red 1966 Ford Mustang in white leather. Sewing is in my genes, and for that I'm very grateful.

I'll show more pictures when I get it, but for now I'd love to know what you all think this baby is.

Pics need to be pretty small, about 1000 pixels on the long side. Hate to see machines leave my state, but if it is your family I can approve. ( sorta) ;-)

I agree. It's not a Singer. It has that Dressmaker, Morse, White look to it. You'll know soon. It looks like a project machine and cabinet.

Looking closer, that's an older cabinet which might have once had a Singer in it. It appears to be the one with the equal sides to the top. Someone said those are earlier than the ones with the shorter right side.

The cabinet is a Singer No 40. I think it was dedicated to model 66, I'm not entirely sure, but I have only seen it with this model. The blue machine probably replaced a 1930s back cast iron 66 (straight stitch only) with a Japanese zigzagger around 1960. Model 66 look very nice in that cabinet. It's small and neat, and I think it was called a "Library Deluxe Table" or something like that. Quite expensive at the time and well made.

I bought a Singer 66 in that same cabinet. But I think it was older than 30's. This style cabinet was reintroduced at a later date. The early one had the split in the middle, and the right side folds complete down (like the one in the picture). The latter model has a 3/1 split and the right side aligns with the bed when open. That later style is what my Mom had a 201 in that I learned to sew on. I have the cabinet but the machine is long gone.
