It doesn't go in a machine. You hold it in your hands and use it to make lace for pillowcases, lace edgings for collars like Grndma used to wear. It is very pretty work.

My Mom used to tat- many years ago. Little tiny clicks as she made lace for pillowcases, etc. Thanks for the memories!

I taught myself to tat and this style of metal shuttle is still for sale. I found my shuttle made by Susan Bates at JoAnn's.

It is a tatting shuttle. There are lots of videos on Youtube showing you how to use it.

it is a fairly modern tatting shuttle. used to make lace, doilies or whatever else you would knit or crochet. it one uses it to make series of tiny knots all joined together. i have found some at estate auction/sales from the fifties that are of that old plastic that many household emplements were made of after WWII. if you look online, you can find many tatted examples. and even tutorials. an old needle work style that is becoming popular again.

I knew it didn't go with the machine. I just wondered what it was. Do you know if the black rubber washer that was in the box goes with the shuttle?

It doesn't go on the machine...you hold it in your hand and use it as a tool to "tat"....you can probably google it and find out how to do it if you're interested...

It's a tatting shuttle. Tatting is a type of lace that is made on this shuttle. I do tatting myself.
