W & W serial number 338846

W & W serial number 338846
I just bought a wheeler and wilson with serial number 338846. Trying to determine its year. Say 9W but I also have the same version of machine when Singer bought them. And with its serial number it dates 1879. I am getting conflicting information with the 2 because it just doesn't match up. Any idea's.

Welcome. The Singer really did not keep track of the W&W machines serial numbers like they did for their own machines. Considering Singer didn't take over W&W until about1905, (there is some discrepancy as to exact date per some links) it could not have been made before that. The W&W 9s didn't come on the market until about 1888, so it could not have been before that.
