I have been looking at how to refinish these old cabinets (Thanks, Glenn) and wondering just how many shades these came in. There is one on Minneapolis Craigslist today that is light and another I saw on another site that was more mahogany or walnut shade. Does anyone know this? Thanks for any help!

I did a quick search and mostly I just saw the light color (my mom called it "blond") and the walnut color. I don't know if they had other colors or not.

I've seen three. Light, dark, and one that was light with dark accents, but I don't now if it was original or not. ISMACS page doesn't give the usual finish options for it.

I found a copy of a 1950 Singer catalog online, it said 42 comes in mahogany, walnut, and modern oak. Some of them also have, of all things, an ink well.

Thanks everyone for your input. tscweaves thanks for the specific finishes, too. Apparently the cabinet could have also served as a desk hence the ink well. I purchased a 15-91 with the flip top cabinet/stool/original bill of sale years ago at a second hand store that had taken in two sewing machine cabinets and they wanted to get rid of it- my lucky day! I have sewn some heavy duty projects on it and find the current cabinet requires that I sit straddled around one of the legs. I believe the design of the #42 would be more comfortable. Now to find one...Fingers crossed for a walnut but I will take any of them. Thanks again.

Still looking for one of these cabinets... I saw one online that looks like it has a foot pedal at the bottom right of the inner side of the cabinet. Is the wiring easily changed out? I have a 15-91 in a traditional flip top cabinet with the one drawer on the front and I can use either the knee control or foot control.

I have two mahogany ones. One has black accents, the other does not. I also have a "blonde" one that is white oak and it's in pretty bad shape. I've never seen a walnut one.

I just checked mine for the knee lever. One had it and it has been removed. The other two have it.

The built in foot pedal needs to be hardwired to the machine, so if you've got one that has a double ended plug, then you can use that instead.

If you want to use a knee controller, then you'll have to put one in.

I have the two versions of this cabinet, along with three other cabinets of a very similar style out in my storage shed now. The one DH was using, he took off the foot controller and used his 201 with the regular double sided cord. I used mine for a "dashboard" White. That machine had the two cords with plug in ends (Japanese made) so DH rewired the cabinet so it has an outlet to plug the machine in and I could use the built in foot controller.

I'm sorry. I was mistaken on the cabinet model. I don't have one of those. I have 3 model 65 cabinets. I just read art deco and assumed. Lately, I've seen the 65 cabinets referred to as art deco, although I would suggest 50's Modern is more appropriate.
