I am so pleased for you all. I don't think I will ever forget how I felt once mine was done, and I want you all to feel the same! Keep up the good work.

I'm with you Meredith...I'm enjoying the last part of the quilt and I'm giggling at some of the early blocks that I did. Man....we have all sure learned a lot working on this baby. I humbly say that I'm a MUCH better piecer now than when I started it. I decided to go ahead and quilt some of the early ones just to see how they look. It has improved some of them ALOT. So..when I get them all quilted, I will lay them out and rearrange any that I need to. I've noticed a couple that are close together that somehow ended up being fabrics that are very close in color/pattern or tone. They will have to find new homes. I don't think there are many...but a few. Then I'll sew the sashing/cornerstones on. I'm so excited about it!

I still have to find a quilting pattern for the between tris also. Meredith..I'd love to do mine on a LA...but it isn't in the cards..so maybe next time?? Jan, I agree...those weeks were almost boring..can you believe we say that?? LOL!!

Jane just did boring straight vertical lines on her between tris, about half an inch apart. Perhaps she was running out of ideas by the time she got to them. Even diagonal lines would be more interesting.

Oh, I won't do just straight lines or diagonals I don't think. I have some quilting software with lots of patterns on it. Actually..I bought it awhile ago and I'm ashamed to say that I haven't even loaded it! So..I'm thinking that there may be a nice skinny swirly looking thing or something...I don't know..we'll see.

Ah, but was it just Jane that did it all. Could it have been a "community' gift for Jane when she was going through difficult times or when she re-married or .. .. who knows. To me it looks as though many hands have sewn this quilt, which could also explain some of the 'oddities'. Just thought I would put this out there. Cheers

Hmmmm.....ozecb...you have a really great point there! I hadn't even thought of that. Could there really have been an entire group of people who were insane enough to make this size of complicated blocks? Gives us something to think about huh?

ozecb 11-23-2010 05:17 PM

I love to think of the great spirit of community that existed during those terribly difficult times and that maybe it was a gift to Jane. To me it also looks as if her name has been added in - maybe it was a gift, maybe she found and put her name on it. Who knows? 'tis truly a challenge, bet there's a family journal somewhere that speaks of this quilt. Caro

I still have all 4 corners, I plan to work on those in December, one a week as I would like to have those finished by the end of the year.

I am going to start sewing on the sashings and cornerstones to the blocks, but I am in no rush to finish, as I feel I am way ahead of the schedule!

Yeaaaaaaah! What a milestone for you! I finished mine not too very long ago. I was hot to trot to get everything put together, then life (or DH's Job hunt and my job obligations) got in the way. Am quilting now.

Anxious to see your top when it's all together.

Congratulations!

I'll put together a couple pix of blocks with my fave fabrics. In the end, they're saving me money, too. I've never bought a fat eighth in my life and I have no stash. I tend to buy 3 or six yards at a time and yet I have no stash!?! How does that happen? :0)

Thanks! You are getting really close too, it does start to feel exciting after all these months working on these little blocks that seemed almost endless...:D
