Nice blocks, I thought we didn't officially start working on these until tomorrow....am I behind again (I just got caught up!) or are you just really on top of things?

Where are the rotary directions please?

My blocks #17 & #18. I did rotary cut with #17 and used my new EQ7 foundation print for #18.

Well, I've got 17 & 18. I'm not satisfied with 18 so may redo it after I see how well it plays with the other blocks when more are done with the sashing. There is a big lump in the center because of the seam allowances. I paper pieced it so couldn't press open the seams.

Very nice blocks. I thought these were hard and I'm still not happy with my #18 (will post tomorrow). Love the fabrics you all chose.

JeanieG 09-28-2010 09:01 PM

I've finished mine too, will post tomorrow! No. 18 was a bear, tore it apart several times. Still not pleased with it, but "Oh Well". Am I bad or what! :-D

Do we have a super slacker club then? I'm working on block 11!

Oh well, we just have to remember the point is to enjoy the journey. Since I'm a teacher, I will have holidays coming during the next few months where I can increase production.

The Century of Progress block (which I've never seen before) looks like an angel to me.

Here are my 17 & 18; I did them quite a while ago, but I recall they were both a bit difficult.

Thanks! I like yours, too. I'm satisfied with most of my color choices of the blocks I've done so far, but when I put the quilt together, I know of at least 1 block that is very, very "iffey" and will probably need to be re-done. If I only have to re-do one, I will consider myself lucky.

Hi JanRN, Block #18 is soooooooo dramatic !! I love it!!

janRN 09-29-2010 01:56 PM

Thank you Honchey; this is the one I don't think looks right. The large dark blue area at the bottom makes it look bottom-heavy to me. Thanks-it's encouraging to get compliments.

weezie 09-29-2010 02:40 PM

I have not said so until now, I think, but I sure do enjoy looking at the photos and fabric/color choices; I'm still amazed how the colors & color value can so dramatically change the look of a block. Even when I'm choosing fabrics for my own blocks, I get such a kick out of the different looks I can get just by changing fabric(s).

Oh dear, if you girls had problems with #18 I may as well not even start it. It is a very pretty block and the ones on this thread are beautiful.

Hi Nanjun, I thought the way EQ7 diagramed it would be easy--but it wasn't--I can't even make a potholder out of it. I used the templates on freezer paper and sewed right thru the paper but I didn't sew to the edge. I left the 1/4 " seam allowance open. Now I just have to sew the sections together the way it's pictured in the book--so far ao good.

wvdek 09-29-2010 04:19 PM

Nonnie, I am with you in the Super Slacker club. Oh well.

Ummm, I don't mean to be rude, but #18 does not look right on these. Is it just me or is it that way for an over-all design using the same block? I think I will have to play with this one until I really like the final outcome. Sorry, don't mean to upset anyone.
Irregardless, all the blocks are so neat. I love all the variations.

It is odd-looking. I suspect it was, as you say, originally designed to be matched up to other Century of Progress blocks of the same fabrics, which would entirely change the look of it.

As I was picking out my fabrics for #18, I couldn't help but notice what a nice skull or Cylon that block could make. It is a weird one.

Wow, great job mirabelle - love your colors.

mirabelle 09-29-2010 10:59 PM

Thank you, think I am finally getting the knack of these civil war reproduction prints

janRN 09-30-2010 05:29 AM

Mirabelle of all the #18's I've seen, I like yours best. I've fussed over that one and agree with WVDEK-it's an odd looking block. Great job everyone-love all the different colors.

Hi, Having grandsons playing w/toys--the block reminds me of the "transformer figures". Is this a sign that I'm spending alot of time with them????

These are beautiful. What process did you use for 19. My points did not match very well, I used the templates.

My 18 was taken apart and put together again it looks so bad.

Debo 09-30-2010 07:24 PM

All of the blocks are so pretty. I love all of the color combinations.

Mary Hen 09-30-2010 10:18 PM

Oh! I just love all the blocks you've done. Not sure which pattern I like the best. And yes may the Fabric Fairy always be good to us. I just love quilting.

The blocks are all so pretty everyone!

Here are my blocks 17 & 18...I did change the coloring on 18, because I liked it better than what the pattern called for.
