The FWS Pony Club week 23 Home Treasures & Ice Cream Bowl Photo Page

The halfway mark is here and I'm almost done with Ice Cream Bowl..I can't believe I pieced 4 blocks this week...I hope it's a sign of more catching up!!!! Show your stuff girls...I mean blocks :) ! H.

I got two blocks done for this week. I liked how Home Treasures turned out.

I substituted ICB with Gladie's Mariners Compass. The "white" in this block is more cream than it looks. This block took a long time to put together, but I am happy I kept at it!

Thanks Gladie for the pattern and just so you know I ended up using version #2 (yours) for assembly...the other one had too many "y-seams"!

Here are mine for this week, hope you like them

QuiltE 06-13-2012 04:14 AM

CarrieM ... two spectacular blocks! And I really do like Gladie's Star! Great choices there to make the star shine brightly!

MiraB .. as always two soft and feminine beauties

janRN 06-13-2012 04:19 AM

Beautiful blocks, ladies. Carriem is that an orangish fabric? No matter, it's lovely and I really like Gladie's star. Good job on both.
Mirab, oh so pretty. Your blocks make me think of an English flower garden, so soft but vibrant.

here are mine for this week, fresh off the machine :D

I want to replace Indian on horseback with another block, but havent been able to find inspiration..... until last night!

my Son told me that there was a snake in his room, I dismissed it immediately because I figured him being a joker was trying to get out of going to bed..... SO about an hour later I was turning out the lights and saw a slithering tail go under my bedroom door... I peeked in to see the tail go under my bed!!! so after I stopped screaming! Dh Son came and fished it out from under there! it was a 16inch baby Gopher snake. SO I think I want to make a Snake block for next week, maybe it will bring me good luck so I dont have any more REAL snakes in my house ~~fingers crossed~~

DD those are the prettiest blocks--I love the fabric you used.
Anne, all I can say is "yum"--reminds me of sprinkles on vanilla ice cream. You both have such perfect points.

Here are mine for this week:

QuiltE 06-13-2012 02:41 PM

Honchey ... too funny about the 38 flavours ... and what a great take-off on the block!

DDamsel ... ewwwwwwwww!!!!!!! I don't think I could have slept after that!!! And would be slithering everytime I see a snake block after that! As for this week's blocks, I'll just <sigh> pleasantly and enjoy your introduction of the greys to your blues. Will blend together really nice.

JanRN ... beautiful for both. Great FC FlutterBye! and mmmmmm would that be black cherry ice cream?

carriem 06-13-2012 03:41 PM

Mirabelle--your blocks are great as always. :) I too look forward to seeing them all together.

Jan--yes, the fabric I used is an orange/rust color. Your blocks look great. I especially like the butterfly...it is very similar to a fabric I will be buying in the next week or two from a line called "shimmer" (http://www.ttfabrics.net/cgi-bin/fab...i?Category=710) I love butterflies and plan to use this to make a 4-patch kaleidoscope.

DDamsel--I like your fabrics too...paisleys are another weakness of mine in the fabric dept. LOL I am not crazy about snakes either. I was curious what kinds of snake patterns there were and found two different things you might to check out: http://www.trianglesonaroll.com/snakes.aspx and http://www.artprojectsforkids.org/20...-template.html Maybe you found something already, but thought I would share. :)

Honchey--great ice cream bowl! Love all the "flavor" options.

oksewglad 06-13-2012 06:33 PM

Oh what fun blocks, everyone.
Carrie both blocks are just lovely. Sorry the pic of the Compass wasn't true to life. I have that cream/blue and know it's a much darker block. Center points meet so nicely in it.
mirabelle--ahhh ohhh.
DD, no barbed wire, but these awesome paisleys are fantastic. Yeah right Hot off the machine!! "Snake's alive".
Anne-perfect toppings; perfect pieces!
Jan spot on the FC of the BF's, and no QE it's Blue Bunny's Bordeaux Cherry Chocolate Ice Cream. My personal favorite

Like QE and others I have been detained once again this week. Looking forward to July and maybe some sewing time. Meanwhile be on the look out for Life is like a box of chocolates, coming to a thread near you.

Well, that is a new ice cream flavour to me! .... or is it Ben and Jerry's "Cherry Garcia? :)

You're too funny on the quote! ...... I saw one the other day on a sign that I thought was oh so perfect for quilters and dang it all anyway, I can't remember it at all! :)

I think I'm going into withdrawal and my sewing machine will soon forget me.

Lovely blocks from everyone.

carriem, love the floral in HT, very, very pretty! Your mariner's compass looks great!! That's on my to do list.

mirabelle, lovely blocks, beautiful! I like the 'x' your fabric placement made.

deranged_damsel, great job, love the fabrics. Look forward to your snake block.

Honchey, such pretty colors in your dot fabric, great job!

JanRN, Oh, I love the butterflies and the colors, stunning!!! Beautiful ice cream block too, love the cherry color!

Just finished mine today.

janRN 06-14-2012 01:42 PM

Thanks everyone for your nice comments. Yinz keep me plugging away at these blocks.

Termi, great blocks. Home Treasures is very "western" and your Ice Cream Bowl has me craving ice cream with cherries and sprinkles! Nice work on both of them.

deranged_damsel 06-14-2012 05:41 PM

thanks to all for the encouragement and compliments :D some days I wish I was doing novelty prints as well... there is always next quilt right? ;)

dublb 06-14-2012 06:18 PM

Hey ya'll - Lovely blocks!!! "The faster I go the behinder I git." Yet I can't git enough of all of ya'll's blocks.

carriem 06-14-2012 06:36 PM

Termi--I like your blocks...great job! I am thinking some ice cream is sounding pretty good right now. :)

JeanieG 06-14-2012 07:29 PM

Oh yes carrie - I am craving ice cream right now too! Beautiful blocks everyone, you all did a great job!

Honchey 06-15-2012 04:35 AM

Ok, Jeanie, where do you get the ream of newspaper print from...is it heavier than the doodle pad paper??? I'm tired of paying $2/60 sheets and having to cut them too! I also purchased the packing paper and it's a pain to get it all lined up. The wheels are turning and I'm thinking about future projects....H.

JeanieG 06-15-2012 10:32 AM

I got mine from Dick Blick website. At first I was not going to buy it because the shipping was so high, but I could get 2 reams for the same shipping cost so I went ahead. It is just great. Goes through the printer with no problems. Here is the website directly to the newsprint - just scroll down

http://www.dickblick.com/products/blick-all-purpose-newsprint/

The cost is $3.04 a ream and shipping is $8.95 for up to a $100 purchase. (It was $7.95 when I bought it last December.) It IS really handy and I figure it will last me for years. I tried every stationery type store around my area and nobody carried it!

carriem 06-15-2012 12:42 PM

If you sign up for the Dick Blick newsletter sometimes they have coupons for free shipping...so if you aren't in a hurry to get something you can wait for that.

QuiltingNinaSue 06-15-2012 03:55 PM

Again, I have learned something new!! Thanks, Anne, for asking and JeanieG and Carriem for your replies.

QuiltE 06-15-2012 06:54 PM

Termi ... a perfect pair there, and oh so pointy!

I miss seeing them too and being on this trail with everyone!!! ... just too much happening lately, and :( I don't like what's coming up the next while! This aftn I'm going at putting a hanging sleeve onto my FWS as it's been invited to hang at the LQS!!! And then, I need to work on the International Patriotic Challenge here on the Board .... anyone else going to join us for that? Sure would be nice!!!!!!!

dublb 06-16-2012 02:26 PM

Hooray for QE!!! A wonderful chance ta show your skills! What a wonderful complement. Almost as good as a <strike>blue</strike> red ribbon. :)<strike></strike>

Here are my blocks for this week. Home Treasures turned out really busy! Too much I think!

QuiltE 06-16-2012 07:08 PM

JeanieG ... would that be orange creamsicles? Such realistic saddle material!! What incredible piecing you have done.

DublB ... Maybe better than the red ribbon?

dublb 06-16-2012 07:42 PM

Don't notice me, I was beein' smart markin' out that blue. :) Yeah, I think that it is better than a first place ribbon, but how do you feel? If you feel it is better, then it is.

Yes, in a lot of ways I feel it is better to be asked to have it hang at the LQS. She has a lot more at stake in putting it into her shop ... than a Judge who remains unknown!! And so do I have a lot at stake ... being that I will know a lot of people who see it ... and quilters tend to be harder judges of their peers work than the spectators who stroll by at a Fair! YIKES!!! what have I agreed to? :D

carriem 06-17-2012 03:54 AM

Jeanie--your blocks look great! I especially like the orange fabric you used in ICB.

janRN 06-17-2012 04:34 AM

Jeanie, your blocks are wonderful. I don't think HT is too busy--I think it captures the spirit of the Pony Club. I also agree with QE--mmmmm orange sherbet. And what perfect piecing!!

dublb 06-17-2012 05:46 AM

Oh Jeanie- I'm sorry, How did I miss your blocks???? They are lovely! Such detail! I love those saddles in home treasures. I think that it may look a li'le busy alone but in the quilt it will be just the right movement in the right place! I also agree that the orance in your icecream bowl looks like sherbert.

Termi 06-17-2012 08:04 AM

JeannieG, I don't think your block is too busy, I love the saddles!! I also love the orange creamsicle in your ice cream bowl. Great job on both!!

I think it's quite an honor to be asked to hang your quilt in the LQS, congratulations!! What is the Int'l Patriotic Challenge??

Termi ...... It's a challenge that Works4Me, another Canuck and I started awhile ago. It's more a personal challenge than a competition ... we were both saying, I have this project that I want to do for Canada Day ... some year! First we challenged each other to do it ... then we decided to throw it out to everyone, world wide!
http://www.quiltingboard.com/quiltin...e-t186260.html

W4Me has hers completed ... whereas I have spent too much time on FWS and PC and not moved ahead with my Mr. Monty!

OBTW .... it's anything and everything ... whether a PUP that's been sitting for awhile or a new project; something fun and whimsical or something serious; big or small. Anything fits!!

As for the date ... we chose July 1st as it is Canada Day ... and close to your American 4th July celebrations. The patriotic part does not have to be national patriotism, but could be showing your community patriotism or heritage or ??? ... really anything goes. Back to the date ... it's just a date .... and honestly, we expect it will continue on, long after!!!

So Come One, Come All!!
... Come on over and join in the fun!!!

(and yes, it's become quite a little chatty hang out too!)

Thanks everyone for the nice comments! :o I actually PP the Ice Cream Bowl, have not PP in quite a while now! Nice change of pace!

oksewglad 06-17-2012 02:52 PM

I like the saddles, Jeanie! Maybe you don't like it as well cuz it's paired next to the Orange Sherbet block. Once you get it mixed with a nice companion block plus sashing you may change your mind!
Not getting much done here--house has quieted just a bit, enough for me to catch a nap late this afternonn. Hopefully the 2 little ones will get close to their at home routines for the rest of the week. Now that the Wisconsin crew has headed home it will make a difference.

QuiltE 06-17-2012 03:21 PM

OKSGlad ... get a routine going ... kidlets nap and so does Granny! :) The week will fly by all too quickly and then they'll be gone ......... and you'll be ready for a llllllllong nap to be in fine form for DS's DGF "experience you"!! :)

Happy Father's Day!!!
... I hope that you have all had a splendid day/weekend celebrating with your Fathers, Husbands and families!
I'm ever so green with envy!
