You know, I don't understand acronyms as far as quilting or BFFs or whatever for the life of me. Have we gotten so lazy that we cannot say Bev is my best friend forever" and not "Bev is my BFF?"

My mom, age 96 and I, age 74-1/2, had a conversation the other day about how words have gotten so sloppy, kids can't hold a pencil correctly, printing and writing is going by the wayside sooner than later and no one cares. Spelling is absolutely atrocious and no one seems to realize that acronyms are going to become so much a part of our social lives that people are not even going to be able to communicate if they don't have a list of acronyms to go along with their texting (which, in and of itself, is a danger to any driver on the road). All of this stuff has been placed in front of kids and as they grow up they aren't going to know that all of this starts with learning how to read words not letters, learning how to write words and not just letters and applying what they have learned by passing on their learning and intelligence to their children. I saw a show on tv the other day that soon people just aren't going to learn cursive - it is becoming outdated. Remember how we used to have that paper with the wide lines to practice our capitol letters and the narrower line in between to practice our small letters? Well, folks, that is becoming a thing of the past. I totally understand the use of some acronyms - NATO, ASAP, DDS, USAF, NHL (Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma - not to be confused with National Hockey League). But to use acronyms instead of saying Best Friends Forever, Dear Husband, OAO (my only acronym - for my husband - One and Only), Lots of laughs, roll over on the floor laughing my a-- off. If people need a list to write down three or four initials, what the heck is so hard about writing the whole doggone word??? There, I feel so much better. I spent 12 years in school perfecting my penmanship, spelling, ability to write a coherent and "make sense" sentence to let the rest of this world go to hell in a handbasket. Edie

Always looking for more, so please pass along any more that should be added!
