I've been interested in the Pharmacy tech field.
Anyone here have any info on what it's actually like?
Is it a good career to get into? Job outlook?

It's a good career.
Study really hard, expand your math skills, and memorize as many meds possible and the side effects.
I graduated in 2008 from this course, but changed proceeded in another major with my University.

Good luck, it's intense and harder than nursing.

You can find information regarding the job outlook, training requirements, advancement opportunities, compensation, etc. of this profession on the website of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (bls.gov/oco/ocos325.htm).

If you are looking for recommendations on schools, then I’d suggest the pharmacy technician course offered by Career Step. The course is delivered online, costs under $2k and provides students an opportunity to complete their externships through name brand pharmacies like Walgreens and CVS.

Well ... I worked for a few years in the pharmacy area of an HR consulting firm. I loved it because it was so fascinating. I worked with pharmacists who were tired of "counting pills" as they called it. My experience probably would have qualified me to take the pharm tech exam. I looked into it at one point and it topped out under 30K in the Phoenix area, which was a lot less than I made at the consulting firm. It is interesting, so if you want to do it because you like it, I would say go for it. If you are looking for a good career, keep in mind that the money in pharmacy goes to the pharmacists and the drug reps. Any school that offers the training should be able to tell you how much you could expect to make upon graduation and passing the exam. Do your homework and see if it will fit your needs. Best of luck.

I worked as a pharmacy tech at mail service pharm. that was a good job then they closed and I went to the hosp. end of pharm. that was really good. I loved working with IV's and working with drugs for the OR. study real hard because if you go to a hosp. u really need the course for the IV aspect of the job.. I had a double heart attack and my hear is damaged or I would still be a parm tech. Great job and rewarding!!!
