Thread: Anybody growing lovage?

Is it truly perennial or is it a biennial?

I just bought my plant last year, and it's shot up a big bloom stalk. Should I cut it off, to save the plant its strength? Or just let it go ahead and bloom?

It is perennial. I usually keep the blooms cut off. Great in potato salad.

I have grown lovage for many years. It is truly a perennial. And very hard to boot. We have just had the coldest winter in this part of the UK since weather records started and although many of my other plants died, the lovage is growing as strongly as ever. No need to cut it back. It is a very big plant, growing about 6 feet.

I cut mine back a couple times a year. Just gets to big.

How many years does it take before it becomes "too big"? Mine obviously is not there yet...
