Looks like bed bugs have moved into my DD's room. :( Have no clue where they came from unless my DD's friend brought them with her. You would not believe what her room looks like! DD refused to spend the night over there.

Anyway. Has anyone had to deal with these? How do I get rid of them?

Thanks!

Saw on the news that there is a new treatment involving heating the house with some portable heaters. Kills live bugs and eggs. Good luck. I would try to get a professional if it's in your budget.

They must be exterminated. Here is what you can do for now, take everything out of her room that can be washed and wash it in the hottest setting and dry in a hot dryer. As far as the bed you may have to get a new mattress but I still suggest you call in a professional. Once you get them they are impossible to get rid of on your own. Sorry this has happened to you.

They are becoming a big problem here in Utah. Saw on the news the other day where they had to shut down the Courthouse for a few days while they dealt with them!!

 Place Private college in northern NH. $$$
Senior year with all 5 friends who were were together since freshman year moved into an apt in the Senior residence . after two months the bed bugs smelled fresh blood. # of the girls were coverd with bites. they slept against the wall. They went to RA and medical. everyone refused to believe they were BBs. They escalated and wanted to tackle this w/o parents. they moved them to another building but had to separate them. the dean of students acted when they came to the meeting with evidence and pictures. They had to rewash all of their stuff and cover stuf on the walls and they sprayed all the walls. the girls moved back 2 weeks later. BBS again...On xmas break theroom was emptied and debugged. Needless to say a month later they were back. the girls had tomove back out and it spoiled their senior year. Before grad. the parents stepped in and ordered the room be sealed off at least for ayear. The BBs were insde the wall.

Some things we learned never pick up couches and bedding from th trash. they are attracted to fresh blood. We put duct tape aroung the legs of the beds. sticky side out. or put plastic cups filled with mineral oil under the bed legs. Move everything away from the wall. look on internet of pictures of what the marks on bedding looks like.
My girl is out of school 3 years now and is still paranoid of everywhere she sleeps. she shudders at remembering her college life...the BB part.

On CBS this morning - they were saying that COlumbus Ohio has the 7th most bedbugs in the country - and if you see one female, you have AT LEAST 100,000 eggs. That is just plain CREEPY!!!!

I read where New York City is having the same problems. Many of the hotels are really going through it with them and people are cancelling their reservations right & left.
The problem is the "greenies" got the pesticide that takes care of them off the market and now nobody can control them with the products available to them including the professionals. So it takes forever to get rid of them if they ever truly do without that pesticide.

Some things change for the good and others harm us more than they help us. No offense to the "greenies".
