burp clothes
#11
I've used the pre-folded diapers and cotton on the back. Haven't had any issues that I've heard of. I love the bright colors so I might try terry cloth on one side and cotton on the other... but I have too many diapers right now to use up.

My daughter asked me to make burp cloths for her and I used flannel on both sides. After the baby was born and she used mine and others she had received as gifts, she found the ones she preferred had terry on one side and jersey (like T-shirt) on the other. She said they absorbed the best. If you cover the terry with fabric, the liquid would have to penetrate the cotton first so you might as well not use it at all (IMHO).

I have made a lot of burp cloths and always use flannel. I add a layer of quilt bat in between the two layers of flannel. My daughter loves them as do her friends that I have made them for. She also uses them for runny noses later before toddlers know how to blow their noses. They are so soft and absorbent. The flannel also is sticky enough to stay on your shoulder if you are using them as burp cloths. I wait for the flannel to go on sale at JoAnn's and use scraps of batting from previous quilt projects. They can be expensive to make if you're not careful with how you get your material.

I've gone to the dollar store and purchased inexpensive terry cloth bath towels and made burp cloths out of those. Also if you go to an auto store and go to the car cleaning/care department, they have terry cloth towels cheap too. I save threadbare bath towels for my stash. Great to sew together for animal shelters for blankets.
