Default Mother's Day?

May I ask why USA seem to be discussing Mother's Day now.? In the UK ours is just before Easter as it was the historical day the master of the large houses allowed staff to visit their families on that day. On the way they would pick the flowers growing on the side of the roads hence daffodils are given in churches to mums.

What is the history behind you celebrating. Now?

Our Mothers Day is always in May. Some of our holidays are different than yours. I don't know why, but it just is. Sorry for the confusion.

We celebrate Mother's Day in Germany the same day (second Sunday in May) as in the US. However, Father's Day in Germany is tied to Christ Ascension Day with is always a Thursday in May. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there

Well, of course we had to be different when we broke away from British rule ;-) Happy Mother's Day, anyway.

Thank you ladies. I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day with the people you most love and doing the things you also most enjoy.

Holidays are different everywhere. Our Mother's Day has been because of the contributions mothers have made throughout history. It was actually signed into history as being official the second Sunday in May. Check out CarolynMT's link.

When I was young, my sis and I often sarcastically referred to certain days as "legalized love days," invented by the card and floral industries to boost their materialistic income; but at this age, I realize that you need a reminder to stop and reflect periodically on your loved ones and your blessings. I really enjoy remembering my Mom on mothers day, and appreciating what I see my daughter doing for her darling children as a Mom, and thanking the powers that be that my children came into this world and blessed me so. Last year I put poems on the gravesites of my dear Mother and my MIL. This year I missed, but I did spend some time thinking about Mom and all she gave me. It is what you make of it, I guess, and that can vary.
