I was given a slightly used Cricut Expression. I need to buy the cutting mats and tools. 2 cartridges were included. My question is ... does anyone have one and have you used it to cut fabric?

A friend at quilt guild uses her cricut to cut fabric. I have not had good luck using it for fabric...guess it is not 'crisp' enough for me. I do use it to cut out patterns for applique (I cut them out of manilla folders).

A friend of mine showed me how she does it. She uses steam a seam and leaves the back paper on. (It is cut to the size of the mat) Puts it on the mat and makes sure everything is securely down. I found that yout blade must be sharp. Practice with tension and speed. My friend uses Sure cuts a lot and does not need the cartridges but that program is in a lawsuit with cricut so is not available. After it is cut out she removes the backing and irons on the quilt.

I have one and have used it to cut out fabric (before I got the BSPro).
I leave the paper on when cutting and then when it's done, take the paper off the cut.
It's fun to play with..I use my carts and MTC, which was in a lawsuit with ProvoCraft, so they aren't supporting PC anymore.

I sold my expression and bought a Silhouette SD, which does work with the current versions of both SCAL and MTC and doesn't require any cartridges. Provo Craft will never get another dime from me. I've even quit buying cuttlebug embossing folders and I love those.

Anyone using the Cricut with the Gypsy to create designs and then cut them out of fabrics (with adhesive attached)?
How's that working out?

(absolute total novice here - but I saw the combo and was mesmerized by the possibilities.)

I have one that I haven't used yet. Can't wait now.

Check Cricut's web site, there is instructions on using fabric. Cricut draws on fabric then you cut.

Good idea - hadn't thought of that! Thanks. I'll go to the site.
